Bishop Eddie Long’s wife stands by her man

imageDon’t mind the muscle shirts, talk of dirty men and their love juice, or the lawsuits from four young men filled with accusations of gifts and gay love. Vanessa Long is standing by her man, Bishop Eddie Long. It’s enough to make Tammy Wynette cry. Yes, the wife of the man that makes even Rep. Anthony Weiner look judicious is sticking with him in the wake of his settling those gay sexcapades lawsuits for a reportedly cool $25 million and no public apology. And why should she leave? People are still giving stacks of cash to this man – literally – so he can expand his anti-gay views to new cities. But it seems the internets are rife with speculation that Vanessa Long is fleeing the marital home – the same compound that one of Long’s accusers said he used to seduce him. She would be the second woman to put some distance between herself and Long. Not so fast, says Long’s spokesperson. Long’s church, New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, has said it’s focused on God’s work, though “many people can’t discern the difference between legitimate journalists and irresponsible bloggers.” Ouch. Now, Long’s flak, Art Franklin, is weighing in, too. (And getting into an amusing email tit-for-tat with a blogger over the issue.) “It is unfortunate that anyone would make such hateful and damaging false claims of this nature. These cruel and insensitive rumors have the potential to cause immeasurable pain and suffering. Those involved should feel obligated to retract their earlier statements,” Franklin says. Retract, huh? That’s something we’re still waiting on from Long, who vowed earlier in the legal case to fight like David against Goliath against the lawsuits. He also said he would “respond directly to these false allegations.” He’s never pulled back from those statements, despite shrouding his settlement in secrecy.
