‘Better Mornings’ gets Baton Bob’d [video]

By now, you’re used to the gay-inclusive fun that gay anchor Brandon Rudat and crew bring to CBS Atlanta’s “Better Mornings,” so it’s really no surprise that the one and only Baton Bob was on the show Wednesday to give a sneak peak of his upcoming Myrtle Hat Tour.

If you’ve been living under a rock, the twirling, marching, whistle-blowing street performer is the creation of gay Atlantan Bob Jamerson. Pretty much everyone has seen this fabu-fied majorette doing his thing at Pride, gay bars and events and of course, marching on the streets of Midtown drawing honks, waves and yes some stares on his mission to spread mirth to the people.

Unfortunately, he also recently drew anti-gay slurs and a death threat, but in typical style, remained steadfastly undeterred.

Bob brought it all – costumes, twirling and positive attitude – to the set of “Better Mornings” (video above) on Wednesday, delighting Rudat and his on-air colleagues, and perhaps mystifying some viewers who are new to his shtick. The best part? With this kickoff TV appearance, Baton Bob’s mission of mirth goes nationwide.

The Myrtle Hat Tour kicks off in Atlanta on Friday. It’s a one-man show to bring attention to powers of attorney abuse after Jamerson’s niece tried to keep him from his mother. From there, the show makes pit stops in several cities as Baton Bob works all the way to Congress with his mom Myrtle’s story and his message to change powers of attorney laws.

Reunited now with his mother, Jamerson says the show features costume changes with seven ensembles based on his mom’s lifelong church hat collection. Myrtle herself makes a special guest appearance.

Baton Bob’s Myrtle Hat Tour kicks off Friday in the Garden Tent at Park Tavern, 7:30 p.m. Buy tickets.
