The best queer things to do in Atlanta this weekend

Atlanta’s biggest leather weekend is just the tip of the local LGBTQ calendar. Check out shows, sports, soirees and specials that could carry you from happy hour Friday to sunrise Monday.

Friday, April 13

The Other Show (top photo). Edie Cheezburger and her kooky queens kick off a new era in Atlanta’s newest gay bar @ Midtown Tavern, 9:30 p.m.

MAAP Mix & Mingle. The LGBTQ Metro Atlanta Area Professionals do happy hour @ Ten, 6 p.m.

SPARK a Change. Local reproductive justice group SPARK hosts its annual fundraiser with local bites, live music and prize raffle @ Elevator Factory, 6 p.m.

Jukebox The Ghost. This trio of cuties plays live and gives you a lot to sing about @ The Loft, 8 p.m.

Atlanta Leather Pride. Southeast, Black & Blue and the Eagle throw their annual fest of contests, demos, dances and socials @ Atlanta Eagle, all weekend. Here are the details you need to gear up.

Atlanta Film Festival. Weeks of queer-inclusive programming @ multiple venues continue through April 22.

Mamma Mia! The characters you love and the ABBA songs you’ll never forget @ Aurora Theatre, 8 p.m. Runs through April 22.

Friday Night Lights. Sports on all the screens of Atlanta’s gay sports bar @ Woofs, 8 p.m. It’s also Atlanta Bucks Jell-O Night.

Get Lucky. It's Friday the 13th. Hang with the cool kids in East Atlanta @ Mary’s, 9 p.m.

Uncut Friday. The return of LGBT Latin Night with gogo boys, drag queens and dancing, 18 to party, 21 to drink @ Club Rush, 10 p.m.

Guys & Dolls. Pretty male bartenders and pretty queens in a new drag show @ Ten, 10 p.m.

Glitz & Glam Dinner Theater. Charlie Brown, the undisputed Bitch of the South and her gurlz entertain with dinner and a show amid the fancy theater experience of Atlanta’s premiere drag restaurant and bar. Make Reservations @ Lips Atlanta, 6 p.m., 9 p.m. and the Taboo Show at 11:30 p.m.

Celestial Friday. Celeste Holmes hosts the show “where the stars come out” and puts the grrls on display for your entertainment and your dollars, plus Second Level beats upstairs @ Blake’s, 11 p.m.

Ladies Lounge. Get your lesbian weekend started with a DJ-driven dance party, live performances and scores of women in the new Midtown home of Atlanta lesbian nightlife @ My Sister’s Room, 9 p.m.

 

Saturday, April 14

Atlanta Leather Pride (middle photo). Southeast, Black & Blue and the Eagle throw their annual fest of contests, demos, dances and socials @ Atlanta Eagle, all weekend. Today’s the Gear Swap, and tonight’s Mr. & Ms. Atlanta Eagle and Sweat Victory Party. It always goes a little something like this. Read our Q preview of the whole weekend.

Flag Football. The gridiron gays of National Flag Football League of Atlanta hit the fields @ Franklin Gateway Sports Complex, Marietta, 9 a.m. Post Game Fun @ Felix’s, 4 p.m.

Dogwood Festival. The trees are in bloom like your spring dreams of live music, boutique booths and fest food in Midtown @ Piedmont Park, all day and Sunday too.

#Daydrunk. Drink specials put you to bed early or make you the life of the party as the sun drops @ Mary’s, 2:30 p.m. Do it, and you may not remember what you did during the regularly scheduled shenanigans, 9 p.m.

Paint Party. Eat, drink and create a masterpiece @ My Sister’s Room, 6 p.m.

Atlanta Symphony LGBT Night. Atlanta Pride and the local orchestra serve Dvořák’s 7th Symphony, including pianist Conrad Tao, the 23-year-old YouTube, Tumblr and Twitter sensation,  with a reception after the show @ Woodruff Arts Center, 8 p.m. 

Broadway Birthday. Help raise money for the local LGBTQ theater company and celebrate the artistic director’s birthday with drag Broadway numbers @ Out Front Theatre, 8 p.m.

Antigone Rising. The all-female queer-favorite band rocks the house @ Eddie’s Attic, 8:30 p.m.

Queer Prom. All college students from any local school are invited to this LGBTQ+ prom with the women of ASCEND at Agnes Scott College @ ASC Evans Hall, 9 p.m. 

Glitz & Glam with Charlie Brown. The self-titled Bitch of the South and her girls entertain with dinner and a show in the theater experience of Atlanta’s drag restaurant and bar. Make reservations @ Lips Atlanta, 6 p.m., 9 p.m. and the Taboo Show at 11:30 p.m. 

Fantasy Girls. The queens you love doing what you love in a new home @ Ten, 9 p.m.

Rise. DJ Roland Belmares does that thing to you that you like so much @ Heretic, 10 p.m. Get there early for Armorettes Backroom Burlesque, 8 p.m.

Pop! Popup drag and Popup men werqs Saturday night into a frenzy @ Blake’s, 10 p.m.

Glow Party. DJ Rob Reum pumps beats over your neon ensembles under the black lights @ Ten Atlanta, 11 p.m.

Studio 54: Purple Rain Edition. It’s Gentlemen’s Foundation founder Juan’s birthday, so come dressed to the nines and ready to celebrate with the premiere group for gay menof color in Atlanta @ Stankonia Studios, 11 p.m.

Tokyo Valentino After Hours. Soulful house music by resident DJs presented by Culmination Productions keeps you partying as late as you want @ Tokyo Valentino, 2 a.m.

 

Sunday, April 15

Hotlanta Softball League (bottom photo). The pitchers and catchers of the gay league gather to play @ Johnson Park, 9 a.m. Extra Innings Beer Bust follows @ Oscar’s, 4 p.m.

Fairway to Equality. Golf with HRC Atlanta @ Cross Creek Golf Club, 9 a.m., followed immediately by the Fairway to Equality “Tee” Dance, 1 p.m.

Dogwood Festival. The trees are in bloom like your spring dreams of live music, boutique booths and fest food @ Piedmont Park, all day.

Sporty Sunday Funday. All the games and matches on the screens, and all the guys to watch it with @ Woofs, 12 noon.

Drag Brunch Theatre with the Sisters of Sequins with Bubba D. Licious at the wheel while you eat @ Lips, 12:30 p.m. Walk-ins welcome. Or sleep in and do Dinner with the Divas, 6:30 p.m.

Midtown Rouge. First it’s High Energy and DJ Bill Berdeaux, 1 p.m., then the legendary Sunday drag show kicks off with an all-star cast including Raquell Lorde @ Blake's, 8:30 p.m.

Heifer Review. Ruby Redd and the gals drag the patio while you eat @ Cowtippers, 1 p.m.

Atlanta United LGBTQ Tailgate. The gay pro soccer fans of All Stripes do pre-gaming festivities before the match against New York City @ Lot 1 “The Gulch” outside Mercedes Benz Stadium, 2 p.m. You can also watch the game on TV at Woofs.

AFF's Pink Peach Films. Atlanta Film Festival's first two LGBTQ features screen today. “Mermaids” @ Plaza Theatre, 5 p.m. and “Venus” @ Hilan Theatre, 9 p.m.

Mary's & Mimosas debuts with drag, brunch and drink specials @ Ten Atlanta, 1 p.m. That leads directly into Sunday Tea's weekly tradition of dudes, DJs and drinks, 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. High Tea with today’s hits, 6 p.m. – 10 p.m.

Armorettes. The camp drag crazies with the hearts of gold against AIDS are in their 40th year of weekly shows, now in a new home bar @ Oscar's, 8 p.m.

Tossed Salad. The magic and madness masterminded by Brigitte Bidet and her left-of-center queens goes all in @ My Sister’s Room, 9:30 p.m. You can also catch a more masc side of Brigitte right now.

Tokyo Valentino After Hours. Urban Hip Hop all night by resident DJs, plus 15 dancers and three levels to party presented by Culmination Productions keeps you partying as late as you want @ Tokyo Valentino, 11 p.m.
