All work and no play make you a dull gay. Just in time to save you from yourself and your plodding weekdays, local LGBT events kick into gear with a world of downtime options.

Friday, June 5

“Winning Marriage.” A book signing event and Q&A with author Marc Solomon (top photo) of Freedom to Marry and his inside look at how same sex couples took on marriage equality and won @ F Bar, 5 p.m.

HATCH Prom “Masquerade.” All LGBTQIA youth aged 13-20 get in free to the prom they dreamed they could have, and adults 21 and over can donate $25 to the cause and attend in support, this year with a Masquerade theme @ HATCH Youth, 7 p.m.

Lone Star Volleyball Awards Party. Celebrate the gay jocks as they celebrate their season @ Meteor Lounge, 9 p.m. Of course there’s always room for more during Bright Lights Friday Nights' DJ beats and shower boys get you all wet to kick off your weekend @ Meteor, 9 p.m.

Flex Friday gets your motor running with hot boys, drag and other surprises like half-price happy hour @ F Bar, 8 p.m. Get there early for Belevedere Happy Hour, 5 p.m.

Stripper Circus. The new weekly club concept hits hard, and yes it’s exactly like it sounds. Hot men, performers and surprises @ South Beach, 9 p.m., this week with the Alesso CD Release Party.

Viernes Noche Latina offers up two-steppin’ and line-dancin’ in the legendary Esquire Ballroom @ Neon Boots, 9 p.m.

Totally Radical 80s Night. Bears, Cubs, Daddy, Chaser, Twink, Leather, Levis and Masculine Men. Do it up to the mix-tape music of the 1980s @ Ripcord, 9 p.m.

Bright Lights Friday Nights. DJ beats and shower boys get you all wet to kick off your weekend with DJ Eduardo Escabedo @ Meteor, 9 p.m.

Latin Ladies Night with DJ Kittie. Get with Houston’s lesbian crowd (and their guy friends) up in the Heights @ Pearl Bar, 10 p.m.

Karaoke Fridays. You know what’s up. Happy hour to the wee hours and you belting like a diva @ Guava Lamp, 9 p.m. 

Ladies & Gents. Whether it’s DJ beats, live music, happy hour until 8 p.m., sports on TV or free food in the house, the lesbians are in the Heights @ Pearl Lounge, 4 p.m. – 2 a.m. 

Fantasy Friday. Tanya Hyde leads the drag cast @ TC’s Showbar, 11 p.m.

Fetish Friday. If it turns your crank, they’re doing it @ Eagle Houston, 4 p.m. – 2 a.m.

Boys and Men. You know you love it @ JR’s and Mining Company’s Cockfight.

Dance Your Booty Off and get moving on the floor @ Blur, 10 p.m.

Beats, beers and boys puts the party in your pocket and the gay in your Friday @ Bayou City Bar & Grill, all day.

 

Saturday, June 6

RPDR's Max (middle photo). Another “RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 7 queen hits the stage and takes pics with you afterward during the weekly DJ dance party. She’s mainlining glamour @ South Beach, 9 p.m.

Galveston Gay Beach Weekend. The fifth year of a Pride Month tradition means three days of water, sun, music and lots of fun activities @ RA Apffel Park, 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Lesbian Health Fair. Houston’s Lesbian Health Initiative hosts this day of free health screenings and services, health insurance enrollment info and lots more @ UH HACS Medical Home, 9 a.m.

“Let Freedom Sing” with Gay Men’s Chorus of Houston. A catalogue inspired by the likes of Elton John, Freddy Mercury, ABBA, Madonna, The Weather Girls, Harvey Milk, and Langston Hughes to celebrate Pride Month @ Heinen Theatre, 7:30 p.m. Sunday matinee too.

Shake Up Saturday. Montrose was never the same after the party bar to end all party bars hit the scene. With karaoke and more, you never know what you’re gonna get @ Crocker Bar, 9 p.m.

Ladies & Gents. The lesbians know what’s up for all the gay women and their male friends @ Pearl Bar, 10 p.m.

Levi-Leather Beats. The music and the guys are pumping @ Ripcord, 9 p.m.

Sound Factory Saturday. One, two, you know what to do @ Guava Lamp, 9 p.m.

Party time. Excellent. Slip into something that will warm your gay heart @ Bayou City Bar & Grill, all day.

DJ beats get you moving on the dance floor @ Blur, 10 p.m.

Drag divas never really end when it’s cheap drinks and Showgurlz @ TC’s Showbar, 11 p.m.

Scruffy Saturday. Cruise on over with DJ beats and hot male dancers @ Mining Company, 9 p.m.

Fruit loop. No weekend is complete without a stop in for a few laps around the loop and a drink or five while eyeing the go-go boys @ JR’s, all day.

 

Sunday, June 7

Bunnies on the Bayou Sunday Funday. A celebration of this year’s success (bottom photo) with check presentations to the 2015 beneficiaries and all the hopping bunny tail you can wrangle @ Hughes Hangar, 3 p.m.

“Let Freedom Sing” with Gay Men’s Chorus of Houston. A catalogue inspired by the likes of Elton John, Freddy Mercury, ABBA, Madonna, The Weather Girls, Harvey Milk, and Langston Hughes to celebrate Pride Month @ Heinen Theatre, 3 p.m. 

Mr. and Miss Gay Pride Houston. The annual event to crown two reps for the festival season goes down @ Meteor, 6 p.m.

Montrose Softball League pits Houston’s gay pitchers and catchers on the diamonds @ Houston Sports Complex, 9 a.m. Follow it up with this week’s host bar with the Wave team @ Tony’s Corner Pocket, 6 p.m. 

Retox Sunday shuts down your weekend. These queens know what you need, and you’re going to get it @ F Bar, 6 p.m. And Sunday night is always F Latin Divas, 10 p.m. They are still recovering from this epicness (bottom photo).

Kickback Sunday. Mosey on over for some afternoon delight. It’s the most C&W Sunday fun you can have with your boots on @ Neon Boots, 12 noon. 

Sunday Showtunes puts a rough-and-ready, leather-Levis spin on your usual gay musical fascination @ Ripcord, 3 p.m.

Sunday Lounge. Kick back and do the Sunday do: As little as possible and look good doing it @ Guava Lamp, 10 p.m. Lounge doors for day drinking at 4 p.m.

Sunday Fun Day. Whether you go for the karaoke, the rowdy patrons or what some call the best Sunday in town, get down @ Crocker Bar, 12:30 p.m.

Sunday Funday Crawfish parties until you absolutely have to go home and start your workweek. Crawfish and drink specials @ Bayou City Bar & Grill, 12 noon – 9 p.m.

Dangerous Disco. Thumping beats and the Texans on TV. Don’t stop ‘til you get enough @ Eagle Houston, 12 noon – 2 a.m.

Sunday Fun Day Drag Show with Kofi and the girls and all of Houston’s ready-to-party gay boys @ JR’s. All day bar, evening drag.

All Star Sunday. Alexis Nicole Whitney corrals the queens and closes out your weekend with a showstopper that you have to see to believe @ TC’s Showbar, 11 p.m.

Hot Mess Sunday with Deejay Pollo and Ricky Lee and Houston’s hottest Spanish-English video remix set @ Blur, 10:30 p.m.

Men At Work with trash disco by DJ Danny G and drink specials @ Mining Company, all day.
