The best gay things to do in Atlanta this weekend

Don’t worry. Not every gay man and lesbian is going to Pensacola. In fact, sticking close to home is just as fun with big gay Atlanta annual blasts and special events that up the ante for LGBT ATL’s Memorial Day Weekend.

Friday, May 24
Big Peach Gay Softball Tournament (top photo). The annual weekend-long holigay always brings the gay jocks from around the nation to town for bats and balls through Sunday. Kick it off with the Opening & Registration Party @ Burkhart’s, 5 p.m. Check out our hot jock tournament photos from years past.

Jen Foster (second photo) plays a live set for the ladies who love ladies who love lesbian guitar licks @ Eddie’s Attic, 7:30 p.m.

Dinner & A Movie with Jaye Lish kicks off Jungle’s Friday with a full menu, drink and meal specials, giveaways, surprises. This week, “Sordid Lives” on the big screen in the Jungle Room with Tammy Wynette trivia for cash @ Jungle, 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Then it’s The Other Show with Edie Cheezburger and that cast of crazies, 9:30 p.m.

Got Leche Foam Party gets sudsy to celebrate the long weekend and making Atlanta’s weekly gay Latin night extra wet and wild @ Club Rush, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m.

Raven from “RuPaul’s Drag Race” hits Atlanta to keep it real with the queens as part of the always fab Fab Five drag revue. It’s the second night that the Season 2 finalist (third photo) is welcomed by the local glamazons @ Burkhart’s, 11 p.m. Read our Raven interview.

“Uncensored: Live” records a TV show with you in the mix. Destiny Brooks headlines the part drag, part male performers, part cash and prizes and all original and amazing experience @ Le Buzz, Marietta, 11 p.m.

Memorial Day Weekend Kickoff Party is a very special edition of FUR, Heretic’s Friday man-to-man dance party. Get into it this week with the beats of guest DJ Stan Jackson @ Heretic, 10 p.m.

Welcome to Atlanta Party with Natalie Nunn gets your lesbian Memorial Weekend started right with a DJ-driven dance party and all the ladies you can handle @ My Sister’s Room, 9 p.m.

Saturday, May 25
Happy Birthday, Baton Bob! Gay Atlanta’s Ambassador of Mirth (fourth photo) on the streets of Atlanta turns 61 with no signs of stopping his majorette street performance schtick. In addition to werking it, it’s been a busy year of raving, whistle blowing to the cops, dishing on Judge Joe Brown, and kickin’ it with Brandon Rudat. Be sure to go say long live the queen!

JustUsATL First Anniversary celebrates the queer youth group and its supporters with raffle, dinner, buffet, games and fun @ JustUs ATL, 6 p.m. 

Glow Party with DJ Dee de la Vega gets the women moving and grooving in the black light crazy that is Saturday night @ My Sister’s Room, 9 p.m.

Locker Room with DJ Alex Acosta. Bare as you dare and wear your fitness fashions – jocks, singlets, sneakers and a smile – to werq-out with the legendary DJ/Producer (seventh photo) @ Jungle, 10:30 p.m. Get there early for reduced cover and a chance to see The Q drag talk show, this week it’s “Sex” with Chandler Bearden and Le Sexoflex in the Jungle Room, 9 p.m. We like sex with Chandler Bearden. Joining Hearts Summer Kickoff Patio Party (eighth photo) kicks the yearlong fundraising party efforts of the hot boys into high gear leading up to the namesake July pool party. Get in the moot with a Hot Swimsuit Contest, Frozen T-shirt Contest, entertainers and DJs Mike Pope and Stan Jackson @ Heretic, 3 p.m. – 9 p.m. Here are photos of just how crazy this gets.

Flashback Showgirls is the new show that takes you back, all the way back to a new decade each month. Lady Shabazz leads the cast every Sunday starting this week @ 10th & Piedmont, 8 p.m. View our photos.

Big Peach Closing Party plus DJ Alexander. After they play gay softball all day, the big gay awards from the weekend tournament as part of the fun of Heretic’s all-day outdoor beach blast as it continues, 6 p.m. Then moves inside for performances, sexy international sensation DJ Alexander (bottom photo), and dancing until the wee hours @ Heretic, 9 p.m.

The Armorettes do their weekly camp drag for charity in their ongoing mission to bring bawdy drag and donated tips to the HIV/AIDS fight in Atlanta @ Burkhart’s, 8 p.m. Get there early for Singalong Sundays and dining al fresco.
