The best gay things to do in Atlanta this weekend

If you’re prone to counting your blessings this time of year, one of gay Atlanta’s biggest boons has to be that there’s a weekend between Christmas and New Year’s. Bam – more LGBT events for you!

Friday, Dec. 26

“Imitation Game” (top photo). Gay hero and WWII codebreaker Alan Turing’s story gets the big-screen treatment with Matthew Goode and Allen Leech supporting Benedict Cumberbatch in the lead @ area theaters. Also this weekend, “Into The Woods” fulfills musical queen dreams with gay director Rob Marshall’s all-star cast including Meryl Streep.

Sarah Peacock in concert. Gay Atlanta’s own does you right with song stylings she calls “a perfect marriage between Heart and Sheryl Crow.” Born on Christmas Day, she does up and shares her holiday-birthday combo with fans plus special guest Jacob Bryant @ Eddie’s Attic, 7 p.m. The David Ryan Harris show follows, 9:30 p.m.

Pump: Union Suit Edition pulls all the guys onto gay Atlanta’s hot man-on-man dance floor, this week with DJ Seth Breezy manning the tables and pumping the beats with you in your longjohns or union suit @ Heretic, 10 p.m.

“The Santaland Diaries.” The annual stage shuffle through the mind and matters of writer David Sedaris’ gay department store elf. Harold Leaver returns to the lead role for the 16th year @ Horizon Theater, 8 p.m. Runs through Dec. 31.

The Other Show serves the weekly cast and special guests who make up the most unique drag cabaret in town. She’s so unusual @ Jungle, 9:30 p.m.

Ladies Lounge gets your lesbian weekend started with a DJ-driven dance party, live performances and scores of women @ My Sister’s Room, 9 p.m.

Femme Fatale puts the drag glamazons on display each week. Get your singles ready for premiere Atlanta queens @ Burkhart’s, 11 p.m.

Daring Divas lays it on thick. Lena Lust, Shawnna Brooks, Lateasha Shuntel, Chavon Scott and Niesha Dupree. The crowd goes wild @ Blake’s, 11 p.m.

Chaparral Nights amps up a weekly gay Latin night with stage shows, dancing and more @ Club Rush, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m.

Men’s Night lets you in on the show and specials that get all the OTP gays rockin @ LeBuzz, Marietta, 9 p.m. Get there before the bar closes permanently next week.


Saturday, Dec. 27

Lindsey Hinkle returns to rock her women into submission and ups the ante on the weekly lesbian party. Brooke Taylor opens @ My Sister’s Room, 9 p.m.

Panther Bar Night for Chandler Bearden. Local leather men come together for camaraderie and in support of the popular activist and former Mr. Atlanta Eagle. Eat drink and give back @ Eagle, 10 p.m. All of gay Atlanta has been rallying for him.

The Honey Pot Daydrunk. Drink specials, friends and beer goggles make afternoons so much more appealing @ Mary’s, 12 noon. If you can still stand up, stick around; dudes and dancing and more drinking are in store all night.

Early Country, Late Night Dance offers line dancing and two stepping after the sun goes down, then DJ beats pick up the pace until close @ Heretic, 8 p.m. and 12 midnight.

DJ Joshua D. Gay Atlanta’s best dance party moves to the beat of this local favorite while you get your cocktail on @ Jungle, 10: 30 p.m. Get there early for Ruby’s Redd Light District, 9 p.m.

Synergy turns up the volume on Saturday night and blows your ever-loving mind with glamazons working for your dollars @ Burkhart's, 11 p.m.

GlitterBomb werqs Saturday night with a drag show hosted by Genre, a cast of premiere queens and special guests. DJ and video beats plus more cute boys than you can handle @ Blake’s, 10 p.m.

Divas Cabaret works some looks with Destiny Brooks on the mic for all the OTP gays @ LeBuzz, Marietta, 9 p.m.

DJ Corey David All Nighter moves you all the way to sunrise, just steps away from BJs, Heretic and Jungle. Never stop shaking your ass @ Xion, 3 a.m. – 7 a.


Sunday, Dec. 28

Beards Bears & Otters on Ice (bottom photo). The third annual event puts fuzzy fellas boys and their friends on ice. Slide all around with your gays on the temporary wonderland, and bring Lego sets for charity @ Park Tavern Ice Rink, 6 p.m.n It’s a blessed mess every year. Like, this much.

Drag Gospel Brunch presents the Sisters of Sequins with Bubba D. Licious at the wheel while you eat @ Lips, 12:15 doors, 1:30 p.m. show.

Sunday Funday. It's two parties in one with DJ Rob Reum inside and DJ Robert Ansley outside. All kinds of fun as you go back and forth with warmer temps returning @ Ten Atlanta, 4 p.m. – midnight.

High Energy & Cell Block Sunday. Get to gettin' with DJ Bill Berdeaux, 3 p.m., then the Cell Block drag show with Lateasha Shuntel, Raquell Lord, Shawnna Brooks, Nicole Paige Brooks and Taejah Thomas @ Blake's, 8 p.m.

Sex Kitten Sunday with Angelica D’Paige corralling the queens @ 10th & Piedmont, 8 p.m.

The Armorettes. The camp crazies throw down their weekly show for tips against HIV/AIDS in Atlanta @ Hideaway, 8 p.m.
