The best gay things to do in Atlanta this weekend

Tie on your big gay weekend bib, kids! You’re about to get messy-busy with an event roster of LGBT parties, plays and performances that inject a heaping helping of gay into your Friday through Sunday.

Friday, Nov. 21

The Santaland Diaries (top photo). It’s that time again: the annual stage shuffle through the mind and matters of David Sedaris’ gay department store elf. Harold Leaver returns to the lead role for the 16th year @ Horizon Theater, 8 p.m. Runs through Dec. 31. What will be this year's hidden nuggets?

“United in Anger: A History of ACT UP.” The AIDS Activist group gets the documentary treatment from its roots to modern day, including interviews with people in the trenches @ First Existentialist Candler Park, 7:30 p.m.

Anne Lamott. The prolific, often prophetic author hits town for one night only to read from and discuss her latest work, “Small Victories” @ First Baptist Church of Decatur, 7 p.m.

Mary’s 16 Candles Birthday Blowout. Celebrate 16 years with DJ Headmaster and some anniversary surprises with  East Atlanta’s favorite queers @ Mary’s, 9 p.m.

The Other Show serves the weekly cast and special guests who make up the most unique drag cabaret in town. She’s so unusual @ Jungle, 9:30 p.m.

Brent Star’s Funny at Fork. A new comedy show of talent headlined by the one and only performer will laugh you into the weekend @ 10th & Piedmont, 11 p.m.

Macho Night. The weekly man-on-man dance party gets a Latin twist with Macho Productions. It’s 18 to party, 21 to drink @ Heretic, 10 p.m.

Ladies Lounge gets your lesbian weekend started with a DJ-driven dance party, live performances and scores of women @ My Sister’s Room, 9 p.m.

Femme Fatale puts the drag glamazons on display each week. Get your singles ready for premiere Atlanta queens @ Burkhart’s, 11 p.m.

Daring Divas lays it on thick. Lena Lust, Shawnna Brooks, Lateasha Shuntel, Chavon Scott and Niesha Dupree. The crowd goes wild @ Blake’s, 11 p.m.

Men’s Night lets you in on the show and specials that get all the OTP gays rockin @ LeBuzz, Marietta, 9 p.m.

Chaparral Nights amps up a weekly gay Latin night with stage shows, dancing and more @ Club Rush, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m.


Saturday, Nov. 22

ManShaft: Leather Levi Edition (middle photo). Grab your gear and get ready to sweat. Get ready for vintage porn, DJ Neon Glowgobear and DJ Diablo Rojo at this quarterly party in its new home @ Heretic, 9 p.m. Forget the weather; it’s going to be hot. Leather or not, here come the Lumbersexuals.

LNF Bake Sale. Come get your goodies to benefit a single mom and her two sons “adopted” by the LGBT homeless group. LNF also collects toys for the two little boys, and there’s a kick-ass raffle too @ Lost N Found Youth, 12 noon – 3 p.m.

Fuzz Face. The gay duo brings its “bluegrass with a boner” from Nashville to our neck of the woods. Brandon Gunter and Indie Killed the Pop Star are also in tow @ Red Light Café, 8 p.m. Meet the men behind the magic.

Miss Dixie 2015. Atlanta’s LGBT Dixie Bowling League parades its drag “babes” to raise the roof and raise league funds, this year with a “Magic Queendom” theme @ Jungle, 6 p.m.

Lost N Found Youth Food Drive. Clean out your pantry for winter to benefit Atlanta’s homeless LGBT youth while you’re getting your Ansley cocktail on @ Oscar’s, 7 p.m.

DJ Jack Chang hits the decks with his underground beats that wow the crowds from London to Amsterdam to Belgium and beyond. Get with your dancing queens @ Jungle, 10:30 p.m. Get there early for Ruby’s Redd Light District show, 9 p.m.

Underbear. You, your jockstrap, briefs or boxers, all set to a soundtrack by DJ Sean Mac. Get into it @ Atlanta Eagle, 10 p.m. Hey look! It’s also Panther L/L Toy Drive Night.

Bros B4 Hos Show. The drag kings bust their balls to bring a performance roster to supplement DJ Rapko and woo the East Atlanta lesbian dance party @ My Sister’s Room, 9 p.m.

Synergy turns up the volume on Saturday night and blows your ever-loving mind with glamazons working for your dollars @ Burkhart's, 11 p.m.

GlitterBomb werqs Saturday night with a drag show hosted by Genre, a cast of premiere queens and special guests. DJ and video beats plus more cute boys than you can handle @ Blake’s, 10 p.m.

Divas Cabaret works some looks with Destiny Brooks on the mic for all the OTP gays @ LeBuzz, Marietta, 9 p.m.

DJ Corey David All Nighter moves you all the way to sunrise, just steps away from BJs, Heretic and Jungle. Never stop shaking your ass @ Xion, 3 a.m. – 7 a.


Sunday, Nov. 23

Sunday Funday (bottom photo). It's two parties in one with DJ Rob Reum inside and DJ Robert Ansley outside. Go back and forth @ Ten Atlanta, 4 p.m. – midnight.

Drag Gospel Brunch presents the Sisters of Sequins with Bubba D. Licious at the wheel while you eat @ Lips, 12:15 doors, 1:30 p.m. show.

High Energy & Cell Block Sunday. Get to gettin' with DJ Bill Berdeaux, 3 p.m., then the Cell Block drag show with Lateasha Shuntel, Raquell Lord, Shawnna Brooks, Nicole Paige Brooks and Taejah Thomas @ Blake's, 8 p.m.

The Armorettes. The camp crazies throw down their weekly show for tips against HIV/AIDS in Atlanta. Catch the madness @ Hideaway, 8 p.m.
