The best gay things to do in Atlanta this weekend

You work hard for the money. Now that the workweek light is shining at the end of the tunnel, the LGBT-ATL opens its lovin’ arms to embrace you with these shows, parties and fundraising events and make it all better.

Friday, Sept. 12

Ready 4 Hope Weekend: Weigh-In with DJ Luis Perez. The big fundraising weekend for this sexy-ass AIDS Walk team of yearround fundraisers (top photo) begins with a Friday set by this hunky piece of DJ beefcake @ Heretic, 10 p.m. We love him, and we love them. Long time. Keep dancing at R4H: The Warmup with DJ Karlitos @ Xion, 3 a.m., and keep scrolling for Saturday and Sunday parties with purpose too.

The Other Show: Atlanta Pride Night & Bachelor Auction. If it’s been a while since you did this Friday mainstay, tonight’s your night. Not only does it benefit Pride with manmeat for sale, it still serves up the most unique drag cabaret in town @ Jungle, 9:30 p.m. Pride is excited about it too. See who Pride has coming to Piedmont Park in October.

“Perfect Arrangement” by Topher Payne. Even before gay marriage became “everything,” this play by gay Atlanta’s own was workshopping locally. After big doings up the coast, it’s back. Follow these two 1950s couples who aren’t as they initially appear – the husbands are married to each other, as are the wives. Hilarity and real issues ensue @ Process Theatre. Runs Fridays-Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. through Oct. 4.

“Love is Strange” opens the tale of an elderly gay couple played by Hollywood heavy hitters John Lithgow and Alfred Molina. Get to this highly acclaimed movie on a limited local run @ Landmark Midtown Art Cinema and AMC Phipps Plaza, through Sept. 18.

Ladies Lounge: 80s Edition gets your lesbian weekend started with a DJ-driven dance party, live performances and scores of women @ My Sister’s Room, 9 p.m.

Femme Fatale puts the drag glamazons on display each week. Get your singles ready for premiere Atlanta queens @ Burkhart’s, 11 p.m.

Daring Divas lays it on thick. Lena Lust, Shawnna Brooks, Lateasha Shuntel, Chavon Scott and Niesha Dupree. The crowd goes wild @ Blake’s, 11 p.m.

Men’s Night lets you in on the show and specials that get all the OTP gays rockin @ LeBuzz, Marietta, 9 p.m.

Got Leche? amps up the weekly gay Latin night featuring stage shows, dancing and more @ Club Rush, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m.,

Saturday, Sept. 13

Marietta Pride Kickoff (middle photo). Rather than a one-day superfest, this year’s North Georgia Rainbow Coalition celebration is a two-month fandango of Saturday nights through to Halloween Friday. Get started tonight with Drag Tag all night with DJ Birdman in between on the homebase stage @ LeBuzz, Marietta, 9:30 p.m. Marietta could use the LGBT boost right now, what with the gay drama at City Hall.

Fall Ball. The gay pitchers and catchers of Hotlanta Softball and Southern Softpaw join forces for autumn games @ Southside Softball Complex, 10 a.m. Aftergames Afterparty, this week with Atlanta Titans @ Frogs, 4 p.m. This is what Opening Day looked like.

Voices of Note Beer Bust raises a glass to raise funds. Or three or four glasses. Bottomless brew tells the guys, “Hey, I love Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus and Atlanta Women’s Chorus almost as much as I love these Jell-O shots” @ Ten Atlanta, 1 p.m.

Art Party: Exquisite Exhibit. The annual big art night out rolls with a collection curated by queer artist and art lover Joey Orr of the John Q collective. “Exquisite Exhibit: Parlour Games from the Studio Artist Program” will get you going @ Atlanta Contemporary Art Center, 7 p.m.

Underbear takes your clothes off. You’re welcome. Dance in your skivvies, jocks and other undergear with the burly beefy guys @ Atlanta Eagle, 10 p.m.

Early Country & Late Night Dance offers line dancing and two stepping after the sun goes down, then DJ Mike Pope picks up the pace until close @ Heretic, 8 p.m. and 12 midnight.

Raw Talent: Coyote Ugly Week. Kings, queens and femmes vie for tonight’s prize and a slot in the grand finale weeks down the road. All of it goes down amid Atlanta’s favorite lesbian dance party @ My Sister’s Room, 9 p.m.

R4H Main Event with DJ Wayne G. A visiting British DJ full of fun, plus a dance floor rocking as part of a full Ready For Hope Weekend, equals your entertainment and philanthropy @ Jungle, 10:30 p.m. You guessed it. We love Wayne G. A lot. Stroll down to the R4H Extra Rounds Afterparty with DJ Serving Ovahness @ Xion, 3 a.m., and scroll down to see what R4H is doing on Sunday too.

Synergy turns up the volume on Saturday night and blows your ever-loving mind with glamazons working for your dollars @ Burkhart's, 11 p.m.

Sinful Saturday includes the Divas Cabaret and all kinds of other bar night fun for our suburban gays outside the perimeter @ LeBuzz, Marietta, 10 p.m.

Sunday, Sept. 14

Second Sunday Service with DJ Vicki Powell (bottom photo). This dancey, slightly irreverent, incredibly fun crowd loves a good patio party with this dynamic lesbian spin master, and they love their host even more @ Sister Louisa’s Church bar, 6 p.m. It’s a guaranteed blowout. As in epic.

Sunday Funday. It's two parties in one with DJ Rob Reum inside and DJ Roberty Ansley outside. All kinds of fun as you go back and forth @ Ten Atlanta, 4 p.m. – midnight. They really bring it.

R4H: TKO with DJ Duo Travis & Eric closes Ready For Hope Weekend with a bang. Get there and see what happens in the bckspce @ Jungle, 6 p.m. – midnight.

High Energy & Cell Block Sunday. Get to gettin' with DJ Bill Berdeaux, 3 p.m., then the Cell Block drag show with Lateasha Shuntel, Raquell Lord, Shawnna Brooks, Nicole Paige Brooks and Taejah Thomas @ Blake's, 8 p.m.

The Armorettes presents the troupe’s weekly show on its continuing mission to bring campy bawdy drag and donated tips to the HIV/AIDS fight in Atlanta @ Burkhart’s, 9 p.m.
