The best gay things to do in Atlanta this weekend

It's another well-earned weekend in gay Atlanta, and it’s time for you to collect your just reward. Get up, get out and get down to these LGBT shows, parties, bar nights and special events.

Friday, Aug. 22

AGLCC Community Awards Dinner (top photo) honors LGBT business members of the Atlanta Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce @ Atlanta Marriott Marquis, 7 p.m.

Sweet Tea: The Refill. Taylor Alxndr leads a cast of seven performers in this queer variety show to quench your parched summer @ The Hangar, 9 p.m.

The Other Show – And Then Some serves up the most unique drag cabaret in town with its singularly creative cast that always blasts your expectations, this week with the “And Then Some” supersizing of A’zsia KidBazoka Dupree, Chyna White and Pity Soiree @ Jungle, 9:30 p.m. These bitches always keep it fresh.

Ladies Lounge: Show Stoppers Strip Show Edition gets your lesbian weekend started with a DJ-driven dance party, live performances and scores of women @ My Sister’s Room, 9 p.m.

Pump pulls all the guys onto gay Atlanta’s hot man-on-man dance floor, this week with DJ Sean Mac @ Heretic, 10 p.m. and be part of the live filming of a Fort Troff scene.

Stand Up Comedy Night makes the OTP gays laugh with host Ian Aber and other queer comics including Brent Star @ LeBuzz, Marietta, 10 p.m.

Femme Fatale puts the drag glamazons on display each week. Get your singles ready for premiere Atlanta queens @ Burkhart’s, 11 p.m.

Daring Divas lays it on thick. Lena Lust, Shawnna Brooks, Lateasha Shuntel, Chavon Scott and Niesha Dupree. The crowd goes wild @ Blake’s, 11 p.m.

Got Leche? amps up the weekly gay Latin night featuring stage shows, dancing and more @ Club Rush, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m.


Saturday, Aug. 23

DJ Big Kid DoublePlay. An explosive primetime set from this popular Singapore mixmaster (middle photo) is just the beginning @ Jungle, 10:30 p.m. Get there early for Ruby’s Redd Light District show, 9 p.m., and get DoublePlay penetration during DJ Big Kid DoublePlay All Nighter all the way to sunrise @ Xion, 3 a.m. – 7 a.m.

Ready 4 Hope Pool Party raises funds for this AIDS Walk team during this sold-out ticketed event with DJ Neon, raffles for truly awesome prizes, open bar, silent auction and of course hot guys in swimsuits, 12 noon – 5 p.m. Even if you aren't going, it's an excuse to checko out the smoking hot guys.

Queen of the Strut Cotillion & Daydrink. Sloppy sunlight soiree meets a drag titleholder from the Atlanta Talons team who’ll reign over September’s East Atlanta Strut. It’s drinking and dragging, and well it’s a sweet-ass mess @ Mary’s, 4 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Guys As Dolls Show presents a bevy of beauties for AIDS Walk. A huge drag cast and comic Gay Bob keep the party going to raise funds for the Ready 4 Hope team @ Jungle, 6:30 p.m.

Shakespeare Follies – Best in Show rethinks the Bard through a modern, sketch-comedy, circus-act lens. This time, it’s their zany annual talent competition for your votes. For a good time, call this gay-led and gay-inclusive troupe of actors and performers @ Smith’s Olde Bar, 8 p.m.

Vegas: “Bridesmaids” Edition. What happens MSR stays, well you know… Maria Gabriella Band, DJ Chris Rapko and a gay bachelorette party with the lesbian dance partiers @ My Sister’s Room, 9 p.m.

Early Country & Late Night Dance offers line dancing and two stepping after the sun goes down, then DJ Mike Pope picks up the pace until close @ Heretic, 8 p.m. and 12 midnight.

Synergy is the Saturday night show to rock your world @ Burkhart's, 11 p.m.

Sinful Saturday includes the Divas Cabaret and all kinds of other bar night fun for our suburban gays outside the perimeter @ LeBuzz, Marietta, 10 p.m.


Sunday, Aug. 24

Fall Ball Registration Party (bottom photo). Your last opportunity to sign-up, rub elbows and drink with the players and coaches before autumn’s gay combo SSL-HSL league gets going. Beer bust and margarita madness @ Mama’s Cocina Latina, 3 p.m. These guys know how to keep it up.

LGBT Artist Market lines up photographers, crafts, candles, jewelry, authors, clothes and gay small business owners for your afternoon perusal @ Rush Center, 3 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Sunday Funday. It's two parties in one with DJ Rob Reum inside and DJ Roberty Ansley outside. All kinds of fun as you go back and forth @ Ten Atlanta, 4 p.m. – midnight. They really bring it.

Atlanta Freedom Bands hosts the first of three Summertime Funtime Concert Band Reading Sessions.” This is your “in” to keep up your skills, gay band geeks! Musicians at all levels welcome to come check out the band and read some fun and interesting music @ Saint Paul United Methodist Church, 6 p.m. 

High Energy & Cell Block Sunday. Get to gettin' with DJ Bill Berdeaux, 3 p.m., then the Cell Block drag show with Lateasha Shuntel, Raquell Lord, Shawnna Brooks, Nicole Paige Brooks and Taejah Thomas @ Blake's, 8 p.m.

The Armorettes presents the troupe’s weekly show on its continuing mission to bring campy bawdy drag and donated tips to the HIV/AIDS fight in Atlanta @ Burkhart’s, 8 p.m.
