The best gay things to do in Atlanta this weekend

We know. It’s hot out there. But since it’s summer and expected, you can close your mouth about that and open your mind to all these LGBT Atlanta event possibilities to get you through it.

Friday, Aug. 4

Wussy Prom. The kids are back in school, and the LGBT kids are back in costume, led by DJs POZSIPOZSI and King Atlas plus Violet Chachki and Fade-Dra [email protected] Jungle, 10 p.m.

Too Marvelous For Words. Local gay Broadway alum and Campagnolo entertainer Robert Ray revives his ensemble cast revue of classic works by Georgia’s own Johnny Mercer @ Theatrical Outfit, 8 p.m. Saturday too.

Summer Hoop Fest. Gay basketball jocks shooting hoops and dribbling balls through Sunday @ Clayton State University SAC, all weekend.

Cabaret. The Kander and Ebb classic hits the Kit Kat Club with Brian Clowdus as Emcee @ Serenbe Playhouse, 8 p.m. Runs through Aug. 27.

Heathers: The Musical. The camp classic you love live on stage as a musical. Don’t miss it through Aug. 13 at OnStage Atlanta, 8 p.m.

The Other Show. Come to the unique weekly drag cabaret with an eclectic cast and special guests that always pack a surprise @ Jungle, 9 p.m.

Boys Room. Hang with the cool kids in East Atlanta @ Mary’s, 9 p.m.

DJ Ron Pullman and the Onyx Club get the weekend going @ Atlanta Eagle, 10 p.m.

Pump. The weekly man-on-man dance party launches your weekend @ Heretic, 10 p.m.

Fresh Face Friday puts the newest drag glamazons on display. Then get your singles ready for premiere queens in Femme Fatale @ Burkhart’s, 9:30 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Glitz & Glam Dinner Theater. Charlie Brown, the undisputed Bitch of the South and her gurlz entertain with dinner and a show amid the fancy theater experience of Atlanta’s premiere drag restaurant and bar. Make Reservations @ Lips Atlanta, 6 p.m., 9 p.m. and the Taboo Show at 11:30 p.m.

Celestial Friday. Celeste Holmes hosts the show “where the stars come out” and puts the grrls on display for your entertainment and your dollars, plus Second Level beats upstairs @ Blake’s, 11 p.m.

Ladies Lounge. Get your lesbian weekend started with a DJ-driven dance party, live performances and scores of women in the new Midtown home of Atlanta lesbian nightlife @ My Sister’s Room, 9 p.m. 


Saturday, Aug. 5

Kickball for a Cause (middle photo). Joining Hearts benefits from this just-for-fun tournament @ Piedmont Park, 10 a.m.

Wet Demons Pool Party (top photo). This Hotlanta Softball team raises money for their Gay Softball World Series trip with pool boys, drinks and more, 1 p.m. Click event name for address.

#Daydrunk. Drink specials put you to bed early or make you the life of tonight’s party @ Mary’s, 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. Do it, and you may not remember what you did during the regularly scheduled shenanigans, 10 p.m.

Peach ATL Launch Party. Atlanta’s new gay weekly gets to know you @ Ten Atlanta, 8 p.m. – 10 p.m.

DJ Dance Party. You’re always a go for beats @ Jungle, 10:30 p.m. Get there early for Fantasy Girls, 9 p.m.

DJ Neon the Glowgobear kicks Saturday into high gear @ Atlanta Eagle, 10 p.m.

Sizzling Startlets and Fever. The opening show is followed by the quintessential drag cast working for your dollars @ Burkhart's, 9:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. 

Glitz & Glam with Charlie Brown. The self-titled Bitch of the South and her girls entertain with dinner and a show in the theater experience of Atlanta’s drag restaurant and bar. Make reservations @ Lips Atlanta, 6 p.m., 9 p.m. and the Taboo Show at 11:30 p.m. 

GlitterBomb werqs Saturday night with a drag show hosted by Edie Cheezburger, a cast of premiere queens and special guests @ Blake’s, 10 p.m.

Afterhours really gets cranking when the party moves to Cheshire Bridge Road with DJs Cosmo and Tracy Levine @ Tokyo Valentino, 3 a.m. – 7 a.m.

Xion Afterhours at Jungle. The afterhours you love, the venue you already know. Never stop shaking your ass with DJ Kevin Durard @ Jungle, 3 a.m. – 7 a.m.


Sunday, Aug. 6

Blondie and Garbage (bottom photo). Two great female-fronted bands from somebody's childhood share one bill @ Chastain Park, 8 p.m.

AV200 Check Presentations. The beneficiaries collect the loot from the big gay bike ride across North Georgia. Cocktails, snacks, checks and hugs @ Names Project, 2 p.m.

Drag Brunch brings the Sisters of Sequins with Bubba D. Licious at the wheel while you eat @ Lips, 12:30 p.m. Walk-ins welcome. Or sleep in and do Dinner with the Divas, 6:30 p.m.

Sporty Sunday Funday. All the games and matches on the screens and all the guys to watch it with @ Woofs, 12 noon.

Midtown Rouge. First it’s High Energy and DJ Bill Berdeaux, 1 p.m., then the legendary Sunday drag show kicks off with an all-star cast including Raquell Lorde @ Blake's, 8:30 p.m.

Sunday Funday. The weekly tradition of dudes, DJs and drinks continues, now with an all new, all gay attraction @ Ten, 4 p.m. 

Atlanta United. Watch Atlanta's pro soccer jocks take on Sporting Kansas City with LGBT supporters All Stripes @ Woofs, 7 p.m.

Armorettes. Atlanta’s camp drag crazies against HIV do their weekly good in the gayborhood @ Burkhart’s, 7:30 p.m.

Tossed Salad. The magic and madness masterminded by Brigitte Bidet and her left-of-center queens goes in hard @ Burkhart’s, 10:30 p.m.
