The best gay things to do in Atlanta this weekend

As spring starts to poke its head up and see what’s happening, gay Atlanta answers with a ton of options that say, hey, we’ve had enough of this winter BS and are ready for some awesome LGBT events.

Friday, March 4

Indigo Girls (top photo). The Decatur-bred hometown lesbians attach their infectious harmonies to the dulcid tones of the ASO for a one-of-a-kind concert @ Atlanta Symphony Hall, 8 p.m.

Cirque du Soleil: Kurios. The latest cirque show hits town with a steampunk “cabinet of curiosities” @ Atlantic Station, 8 p.m. Runs through May 8.

Surrogates Comedy. “You tell the jokes, the comics pull the strings.” Lineup includes gay Atlanta’s own Ian Aber @ Highland Inn, 8 p.m.

Boys Room. Skip class and come hang where the cool kids are @ Mary’s, 9 p.m.

Pump pours its weekly man-on-man dance party all over you, this week with DJ Mike Pope @ Heretic, 10 p.m.

Hanky Code. Wear your fetish in your back pocket as the Onyx leathermen of color club makes its monthly bar night with DJ Ron Pullman on deck @ Atlanta Eagle, 10 p.m.

The Other Show. A weekly drag cabaret with an eclectic cast tries to keep you guessing @ Jungle, 9:30 p.m

Deadly Vixens puts the grrls on display for your entertainment and your dollars, plus Second Level beats upstairs @ Blake’s, 9 p.m.

Femme Fatale puts the drag glamazons on display each week. Get your singles ready for premiere Atlanta queens @ Burkhart’s, 11 p.m.

Glitz & Glam Dinner Theater. Charlie Brown, the undisputed Bitch of the South and her gurlz entertain with dinner and a show amid the fancy theater experience of Atlanta’s premiere drag restaurant and bar. Make Reservations @ Lips Atlanta, 6 p.m., 9 p.m. and the Taboo Show at 11:30 p.m.

Friday Night Dance Party. Another weekly way to kick off your weekend just hit 10th Street. See what you can get into @ G’s, 10 p.m.

Ladies Lounge. Get your lesbian weekend started with a DJ-driven dance party, live performances and scores of women in the new Midtown home of Atlanta lesbian nightlife @ My Sister’s Room, 9 p.m.

Chaparral Night turns up the volume on its weekly gay Latin party with stage shows and dancing into the wee hours @ Club Rush, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m.


Saturday, March 5

Purim Off Ponce (middle photo). The LGBT-centric SOJOURN group celebrates the Jewish holiday with a costume party for all comers. Your take on this year’s “Wild” theme encouraged @ Le Fais Do-do, 8 p.m. Read our preview.

Atlanta Bucks Rugby. A match against Georgia State puts ATL’s gay players on the home pitch for the first time this season @ Walker Park, 1 p.m.

#Daydrunk. Drink specials put you to bed early or make you the life of tonight’s party @ Mary’s, 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. Do it, and you may not remember what you did during the regularly scheduled nighttime shenanigans, 9 p.m.

Rafer Johnson Volunteer Day. Join the team of dedicated people trying to elect this College Park guy as the first openly gay state legislator in Georgia. District 62 needs you for canvassing, callbanking and more @ 5010 Butner Road, College Park, 2 p.m. Johnson’s “out” for votes.

Woofs Wackers Beer Bust. The teams of HSL get the beer busts started even before the softball games. Catch this one with fundraising shots and drunken Gummi Bears to boot @ Woofs, 4 p.m.

Gentlemen’s Foundation Wine Tasting. The gay men of color in this organization are raising funds with fun. Taste seven wines and enjoy appetizers and brotherhood @ Cook’s Warehouse, Decatur, 7 p.m.

Dragavanza. Regina Carter celebrates her annual 40th birthday in a draglicious benefit that benefits Lost N Found Youth and Ready 4 Hope @ Jungle, 6 p.m.

Country all night. Scoot your boots with the C&W gays @ Heretic, 8 p.m.

Jerseys & Jocks. It’s not just the name of the party, it’s what you’re wearing. Athletic gear and athletic supporters dance with popular hunky DJ Seth Breezy in the booth @ Jungle, 10:30 p.m. Get there early for the Fantasy Girls Show, 9 p.m.

Gurlfrandz Dance Party. Eat Atlanta’s own off-center Village Queens pour on the party and the drag for your entertainment @ Mary’s, 10 p.m.

Synergy turns up the volume on Saturday night and blows your ever-loving mind with glamazons working for your dollars, this week compete for a Synergy guest spot @ Burkhart's, 11 p.m.

Glitz & Glam with Charlie Brown. The self-titled Bitch of the South and her girls entertain with dinner and a show in the theater experience of Atlanta’s drag restaurant and bar. Make reservations @ Lips Atlanta, 6 p.m., 9 p.m. and the Taboo Show at 11:30 p.m. 

GlitterBomb werqs Saturday night with a drag show hosted by Edie Cheezburger, a cast of premiere queens and special guests @ Blake’s, 10 p.m.

Ladies Night. Atlanta’s lesbian dance party puts on a show to supplement its weekly womyn ways in a new Midtown location @ My Sister’s Room, 9 p.m.

DJ Fabio Campos All Nighter moves you all the way to sunrise, just steps away from BJs, Heretic and Jungle. Saturday never really ends @ Xion, 3 a.m. – 7 a.m.


Sunday, March 6

Frogs’ Frogs Beer Bust (bottom photo). Even before they ever take the field, this new Hotlanta Softball team knows what’s up: Beer Busts are the way to HSL hearts. DJ Joey Smith serenades the shenanigans @ Frogs, 2 p.m.

Sunday Fun Day wraps your weekend just the way you like it, with all your gays and DJ Rob Reum @ Ten Atlanta, 5 p.m. – midnight

High Energy & Super Sunday. Get to gettin' with High Energy and DJ Bill Berdeaux, 1 p.m., then the Super Sunday drag show with Evah Destruction, Nichelle Paris, Shawnna Brooks and Raquell [email protected] Blake's, 8 p.m.

Drag Brunch presents the Sisters of Sequins with Bubba D. Licious at the wheel while you eat @ Lips, 12:30 p.m. Walk-ins welcome. Or sleep in and do Dinner with the Divas, 6:30 p.m.
