The best gay things to do in Atlanta this weekend

Whether you can’t stand or can’t get enough Valentine’s Day, get the gay love you need this Friday through Sunday with LGBT Atlanta events that honor and/or shame the Hallmark holi-gay.

Friday, Feb. 13

Heartthrob: St. Valentine Hook Up Party. The combination of a weekend V-Day and Friday the 13th spell extra irreverent fun in the “Boys Room” (top photo) and Atlanta Bucks rugby players upstairs @ Mary’s, 9 p.m.

“on love.” Core Dance Company moves to move you in this themed performance run @ Callanwolde Fine Art Center, 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday shows too. Buy tickets.

“The C.A. Lyons Project” world-premieres its AIDS drama that takes place at a local dance company. Traditional play and dance performances unite gorgeously @ Alliance Theatre, 8 p.m. Runs through March 8.

“Ambitious Beast.” A group show to blow your art-loving mind starts with an opening reception in the gay-owned spaces @ Kai Lin Art, 7 p.m.

Friday the 13th Unlucky in Love Party pulls all the guys onto gay Atlanta’s hot man-on-man dance floor, this week with DJ Mike Pope pumping your ailing heart @ Heretic, 10 p.m.

The Other Show: My Bloody Valentine. The Hallmark holi-gay twists up this weekly cast and special guests that make up the most unique drag cabaret in town. She’s so unusual @ Jungle, 9:30 p.m.

“fml: how Carson McCullers saved my life.” Don’t miss this powerful Steppenwolf play about a gay student, bullying and the saving grace of the Georgia native’s “The Heart is a Lonely Hunter” @ 7 Stages, 8 p.m. Read our playwright interview.

Atlanta Jewish Film Festival. The annual celebration of Jews on film includes LGBT fare “Regarding Susan Sontag,” “The Farewell Party,” three shorts programs, and “You Must Be Joking.” Gay Out on Film fans get discounted tickets with code AATL9686 @ multiple dates and theaters across metro Atlanta through Feb. 19.

All Stud Revue: Valentine Edition gets your lesbian weekend started with a DJ-driven dance party, live performances and scores of women, this week with drag kings @ My Sister’s Room, 9 p.m.

DJ Christopher Kind’s Birthday Bash. Let him spin you right ‘round like a record baby @ Atlanta Eagle, 10 p.m.

Femme Fatale puts the drag glamazons on display each week. Get your singles ready for premiere Atlanta queens @ Burkhart’s, 11 p.m.

Daring Divas lays it on thick. Lena Lust, Shawnna Brooks, Lateasha Shuntel, Chavon Scott and Niesha Dupree. The crowd goes wild @ Blake’s, 11 p.m.

Chaparral Nights amps up a weekly gay Latin night with stage shows, dancing and more @ Club Rush, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m.


Saturday, Feb. 14

Paulo: Tribal Bitch of Hearts Red Party. Get down to the sounds of international beat master DJ Paulo as he flip-turns Valentine’s Night on its ear with you in your Red ensemble @ Jungle, 10:30 p.m. Last year was epic (middle photo). Get there early for the seasonal debut of Fantasy Girls, 9 p.m.

Love is Love Rally. The good people at Freedom to Marry gathers its gays to show Georgia what Valentine’s Day is really all about: Love! Bring your signs and prepare to love @ Liberty Plaza/State Capitol, 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Kiss Them For Me #Daydrunk. Booze, boys and beats. Drink specials put you to bed early or make you the life of tonight’s party @ Mary’s, 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. Do it, and you may not remember regularly scheduled shenanigans later on, 9 p.m.

POPPED Cherry Valentine’s Party. Get Valentine goodies with you in your sexiest red attire as the strippers work you up and the drink specials go down @ BJ Roosters, 10 p.m.

Heart Less. Specials like the “Hex My Ex” and “Love Bomb” shots and a “Cupid is Stupid” drink rev up the anti-V-Day party with the lesbians who treat you just right @ My Sister’s Room, 9 p.m.

Twisted. UK DJ Paul Coals cranks up the cutting edge music so you can cruise this dark, sexy theme night @ Atlanta Eagle, 10 p.m.

He Luvs Me He Luvs Me Not Singles Night. Urban Socialites works it out for you to work it out @ 595 North, 6 p.m.

DJ Mike Pope’s Valentine Shindig. Whether you’re love’s on high or on the rocks, this local favorite has the tunes to move you @ Heretic, 10 p.m.

Synergy turns up the volume on Saturday night and blows your ever-loving mind with glamazons working for your dollars @ Burkhart's, 11 p.m., including special guests this week like Ohm.

GlitterBomb werqs Saturday night with a drag show hosted by Genre, a cast of premiere queens and special guests. DJ and video beats plus more cute boys than you can handle @ Blake’s, 10 p.m.

DJ Martin Fry All Nighter moves you all the way to sunrise, just steps away from BJs, Heretic and Jungle. Never stop shaking your ass @ Xion, 3 a.m. – 7 a.


Sunday, Feb. 15

Tossed Salad. The magic and madness masterminded by Brigitte Bidet (bottom photo, right), her left-of-center queens, and DJ King Atlas rock their weekly drag show and dance party @ Burkhart’s, 9 p.m.

Sunday Funday. DJ Rob Reum gives you the weekend closing party that you so deeply desire @ Ten Atlanta, 5 p.m. – midnight.

Drag Gospel Brunch presents the Sisters of Sequins with Bubba D. Licious at the wheel while you eat @ Lips, 12:15 doors, 1:30 p.m. show.

High Energy & Cell Block Sunday. Get to gettin' with DJ Bill Berdeaux, 3 p.m., then the Cell Block drag show with Lateasha Shuntel, Raquell Lord, Shawnna Brooks, Nicole Paige Brooks and Taejah Thomas @ Blake's, 8 p.m.
