Enthusiastic gay Atlanta Braves fans caught everything Ben Cohen was pitching at Out in the Stands on Tuesday. But the cuddle bear, ally for equality and former rugby jock brought his own catcher this year: Out former MLB player Billy Bean.
The two former pro jocks (back row left and front row right) mixed and mingled with the crowd at Turner Field during a pre-game reception. The event has become something of an annual Atlanta tradition in recent years as the Braves learn to embrace gay fans many years after John Rocker and sadly not long enough after one Braves coach went anti-gay nuts.
Tuesday's fun event was an official part of Stonewall Month, and hosts Atlanta Pride shared a portion of each ticket sold to the Ben Cohen StandUp Foundation. Cohen will return for the Pride festival in October. With so many Atlanta Braves games rained out recently, the reception and game went off spectacularly with only one hitch: the Braves lost 4-3 to the New York Mets.
