Bears, boys and beards take over the ice [photos]

Beards and bears and otters! Oh, my! That’s what happens when a popular gay DJ puts out the call to his hirsute friends to join him on ice at the Southwest Rink at Park Tavern.

What ensued on Thursday was an evening of wobbly, chilly ice skating fun inside the temporary rink at the corner of Piedmont Park near the intersection of 10th Street and Monroe Drive. Call it a one-night gay takeover of the winter tradition, organized by Chris Griswold (top photo middle). That’s the popular spinmaster who warms up the ManShaft crowds, plays with “Rough Gods” and runs in Speedos.
