Hundreds of bears and the men who love them from across North America splashed and cocktailed through the inaugural Bearracuda Heretic Cruise that took them from Miami through the Caribbean and back.
The event – which took place Jan. 31 through Feb. 7 – was the creation of the bears behind the popular Bearracuda party series and Heretic, the Atlanta bar that packs the place when Bearracuda comes to town. Like that send-off party last month.
The cruise set sail from Miami after the bears pre-partied at Hunters in Fort Lauderdale before casting off on the massive Celebrity Reflection on Jan. 31. The cruise stopped in San Juan, St. Thomas and St. Maarten before returning to Miami on Feb. 7.
The cruise featured a robust schedule of nightlife parties, headlined by DJs Tony Moran, Paul Goodyear, Shane Stiel and Ted Eiel. San Francisco drag queen Peaches Christ did nights of trivia and bingo. Lizzy's, a beachside bar in St. Maarten, also hosted a day at the beach on Feb. 4.
In between parties, the bears splashed in the ship's pool, defeating a team of fully-uniformed crew members in a friendly match of volleyball and delighting vacationers with a round of poolside Olympics that included dance routines in the water set to music. It's a gay cruise, after all.
Bearracuda launched in San Francisco in 2006 and has since expanded its bear dance party series to 40 cities across the globe. Heretic celebrated its 23rd birthday blowout in December.
