Be offended by First MCC’s ‘Unmasked’ [video]

A new musical coming to Atlanta is hilariously offensive, and the creators wouldn’t have it any other way. “Unmasked” turns “Phantom of the Opera” on its ear with gullible lesbians, frenemies, queens, politicians, religious wingnuts and a dominatrix.

The laugh-out-loud parody (video above), staging a one-night-only performance on June 9, is politically incorrect and guaranteed to leave people of every creed, gender, and sexual orientation thoroughly offended and loving it. Gay Atlanta’s own Trevor Petty, who authored the show with lyricist and director Mark Davis, partners with The Spirit of Broadway to bring gay Atlanta some laughs and give back to the community.

That’s right. The LGBT congregation at First MCC of Atlanta hosts “Unmasked: The Phantom of the Flopera” to benefit the church’s Compassion Programs, including its Food Bank, Weekly Hot Meal for the Needy, the Clothing Closet and other outreach initiatives. Proceeds from the show and a silent auction the night of the show go to the cause.

We could talk all day about Petty’s pedigree, which includes writing, acting and directing in big-ticket Atlanta productions. But we’d rather send you directly to get your tickets online now. If you buy two or more, enter the promo code GP6912 in the “Member Price” field and the rate drops from $20 to $15 per ticket.
