Baptist leader blames gays for nuclear war threat

Pastor of intolerance and all around smart guy Fred Luter, president of the Southern Baptist Convention, yucked it up with a wingnut radio host where they settled on this scholarly observation: The gays are to blame for North Korea’s threat to launch a nuclear strike against the U.S.

If you were concerned that Luter wouldn’t keep up the anti-gay flame throwing of his predecessor, Atlanta pastor Bryant Wright, once he took the helm of the SBC last June, you needn’t worry. Led down the anti-gay path by Rick Wiles during an interview on Wednesday, Luter took the baton and ran with it.

“I would not be surprised that at the time when we are debating same-sex marriage, at a time when we are debating whether or not we should have gays leading the Boy Scout movement, I don’t think it’s just a coincidence that we have a mad man in Asia who is saying some of the things that he’s saying,” Luter said.

That came after Wiles opened his Trines program by complaining that the U.S. is turning into a cesspool of homosexuality. Which sounds sort of fun, but that’s probably not how he meant it.

It’s really getting tougher and tougher to tell the difference between Luter’s Southern Baptist Convention and Sue Everhart’s Georgia Republican Party.
