Who can resist a cop with some cute toys? That’s the hope of the Atlanta Police Department, whose LGBT liaisons and other gay cops will be collecting unwrapped toys or gift cards worth $25 or more during two stops in the coming days to support the upcoming 9th Annual Toy Party & Silent Auction.
Call it a cuddle offensive with a plush edge.
“I’m pleased that we’re supporting this very worthwhile cause,” Deputy Chief Renee Propes, who oversees the agency’s LGBT liaisons and is its highest-ranking openly gay officer, says in a prepared statement. “Our LGBT employees are dedicated not only to serving the community as police officers, but also in helping to make a difference in the lives of those who are less fortunate.”
The LGBT liaisons, Officers Brian Sharp and Patricia Powell, along with other LGBT officers will collect toys from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 27 outside Brushstrokes and again on Dec. 4 at Toys “R” Us in Buckhead. They’ll donate the toys during the Toy Party on Dec. 4.
