Woofs will cap a 17-year chapter in its history on Sunday when they announce last call at the Piedmont Road location and prepare for a big move.
But it could take up to two months for the LGBTQ sports bar to open in its new location at 494 Plasters Avenue, which is off Monroe Drive not far from the retail and restaurant district Armour Yards.
The new location has its inspection Friday, according to Woofs owner Gregory Hughes (photo center).
“We’ll see how it goes,” he told Project Q Atlanta. “But the other thing too is once all the inspections are done, then the mayor has up to 60 days to sign the business and liquor license. So we don’t know our opening date.”
Hughes originally hoped to open the new spot on July 1 when he announced the move in March.
Hughes said the move had been about a year-and-a-half in the works.
“The current building has been sold and it is very up in the air what’s going to happen next, and I decided that I wasn’t going to wait to find out,” he said at the time.
Woofs will remain an LGBTQ sports bar and they will retain the staff from the Piedmont Road location. The new location is about 800 square feet bigger and comes with about 45 parking spaces. Hughes said an upgraded kitchen will allow for an expanded menu.
Woofs is rolling back drink prices to 2002 for its final day on Piedmont Road. DJ Mr. Richard will also be spinning videos from 2002-2019, according to a Facebook event.
