Joe Manganiello doesn’t trade his prime time soap skills for the life of a brooding werewolf until June 27. But take a peek now so you’re fully prepared for the hunky actor’s new life on über-gay “True Blood.”
You might know Manganiello from “One Tree Hill” and a few guest spots on on the “CSI” franchise. But soon, the 33-year-old Pittsburgh native debuts as Alcide on “True Blood.” Through six episodes, he gets entangled with Sookie Stackhouse in a way that we hope means lots of bare butt scenes. It is “True Blood,” after all.
And the actor understands his audience. Manganiello bulked up for the show (top photo).
“Vampires can get away with having very slight builds and the audience will still believe that they’re super powerful,” he tells PopWrap. “Werewolves are animals and in my mind they should be very muscular. Not an extra ounce of fat on them. Really ripped. I wanted people to look at Alcide and think, ‘wow, he’s a super strong animal.’”
