Some 16 metro Atlanta-based companies, law firms and financial institutions earned a perfect score on a new ranking of how they approach LGBT policies, employees and customers. 

The enterprises – up from 13 in 2016 and 11 in 2015 – were ranked in HRC's Corporate Equality Index 2017, which was released on Monday. They were among 30 companies in Georgia included in the annual survey.

A record 517 businesses – out of 887 ranked – earned a perfect score of 100 on the index, up from 407 last year. The 16 LGBT perfect companies and firms headquartered in metro Atlanta (and their 2016, 2015 scores):

Chad Griffin, HRC's president, said businesses remain committed to helping protect LGBT equality. 

“Even in the face of relentless attempts to undermine equality, America’s leading companies and law firms remain steadfast and committed to supporting and defending the rights and dignity of LGBTQ people,” Griffin said in a prepared statement. 

“The unprecedented expansion of inclusive workplaces across the country and around the globe not only reflects our progress, it helps drive it.  As we enter a new chapter in our fight for equality, support from the business community will be more critical than ever to protect our historic advancements over the last decade and to continue to push equality forward for workers, customers, and families around the world," Griffin added.

The Corporate Equality Index rates companies and top law firms on non-discrimination policies, employment benefits, competency and accountability concerning LGBT diversity and inclusion, public commitment to LGBT equality and responsible citizenship.

The City of Atlanta consistently nabs a perfect score on HRC's Municipal Equality Index. Year after year after year after year.
