My first encounter with 3Minds was on Twitter. There were inquiries made about my style of writing, she mentioned hosting a poetry slam. Someone else chimed in that a 3Minds event was truly something to be witnessed.
Then I saw a tweet announcing the Gossip Bois were broadcasting live on My3Minds.com. Out of curiosity, I went to the site to see what the Gossip Bois were all about. By the time they were through broadcasting, I was left with a warm fuzzy feeling. I knew I had to share my 3Minds experience with you, so I contacted Linn and she agreed to answer a few questions.
ABG: You guys seem like you really get along well. How’d you connect?
Linn: Nikkie and Lydia were long time friends before we formed 3Minds. As we began to build our company, our three friendships grew. We talk almost everyday through email, or phone calls and enjoy each others company.
ABG: Out of this connection, how did 3minds emerge?
Linn: A friend invited me to Rehoboth Temple Church in Harlem, N.Y. After church at a mutual friends house we began to speak about changes we’d like to see within the lesbian community. We each felt that aggressive women are misrepresented, thus the 2009 sexy successful calendar idea was born.
ABG: Why should someone choose a 3minds event over all the other events out there? What makes your events different?
Linn: What separates 3Minds events from all others, is our creative approach towards each event. Our goal is for all patrons to have a unique experience, and possibly leave with something, for example, we hosted a poetry slam with the creators of the Urban L Magazine, the poets had an opportunity to win $200 cash, while the audience enjoyed performances and endless glasses of white zinfandel.
ABG: What else are you involved in?
Linn: Besides producing events 3Minds is a products company. We are working on our next project in August, the 2010 sexy and successful Femme calendar. 3Minds is also involved in Prides all over the country, thus far we’ve appeared in Sweetheat Miami, DC Pride, and look forward to becoming sponsors of ATL Pride for 2009.
Our newest project the Gossip Boi’s is an LGBT live talkshow broadcast from our website twice a month. We touch on real topics and issues such as, AIDS, domestic violence and unity.
We are also big on community service, and participated in the 2009 AIDS Walk and look forward to participating in future events.
ABG: What do you have planned for the future?
Linn: We are huge dreamers and always look to reinvent ourselves. The possibilities are endless for our future, but we will continue to produce unique events, and take Gossip Boi’s talk show to the next level by seeking a network that will broadcast it on a regular basis.
3Minds entertains us, stimulates us and gives back to us. If there was ever a group that deserves support from our community, it would be them. Check the website for past video.
