The best queer things to do in Atlanta this weekend

Venerable lesbian duo. Veteran gay party. Vivacious drag troupe. Venturing outdoor group. Come get this weekend’s LGBTQ Atlanta events.

Friday, Aug. 9

Halcyon (top photo). The venerable lesbian duo rocks at set @ Eddie’s Attic, 7 p.m.

Queer Climbing. Group night with equipment included in $13 day pass @ Stonewall Summit Atlanta, 7 p.m

Garbage Pail Kids. Wussy yearbook photo shoot is also a fundraiser for a beloved friend @ Mary’s, 10 p.m.

Entertaining Lesbians. The newest play by Topher Payne follows a straight white woman with a checkered past who needs to woo Atlanta’s highest-society lesbians. The show gets a dry run @ Out of the Box Theatre, Marietta, 8 p.m. Runs through Aug. 17.

Spring Awakening. The sexually charged and queer-inclusive Broadway hit gets a local re-do @ Onstage Atlanta, 8 p.m. Runs through Aug. 24

Head over Heels. The Gogos catalogue backs this musical with queer Atlanta performers in the cast @ Actor’s Express, 8 p.m. Runs through Aug. 25.

LGBTQ Artist Exhibit at Atlanta City Hall. Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms’ office recognizes LGBTQ artists and LGBTQ-inspired art in the Mayor’s Gallery. The works of 20 artists were selected for the exhibit open to the public Monday through Friday @ Atlanta City Hall, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. through Aug. 26.

The Other Show. Edie Cheezburger, Jaye Lish and the cast bring their brand of drag to their new home @ Midtown Moon, 9 p.m. 

Queer Bait. Party with the East Atlanta cool kids @ Mary’s, 9 p.m.

Latin Dance Party with DJ Moose kicks off the weekend @ Atlanta Eagle, 10 p.m.

TGIF. DJ Sean Michael brings the beats @ Ten Atlanta, 10 p.m.

Celestial Friday with Celeste Holmes puts the grrls on display for your entertainment and your dollars. Don’t forget Second Level beats upstairs @ Blake’s, 11 p.m.

Glitz & Glam Dinner Theater. Charlie Brown, the undisputed Bitch of the South and her gurlz entertain with dinner and a show amid the fancy theater experience of Atlanta’s premiere drag restaurant and bar. Make Reservations @ Lips Atlanta, 6 p.m., 9 p.m. and the Taboo Show at 11:30 p.m.

Fresh Fish Friday & Moonlight Cabaret. The new faces of Fresh Fish drag show wrap your week, then the drag eleganza of Moonlight Cabaret starts the weekend @ Midtown Moon, 8 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Fem Friday. Get your weekend started with DJ beats, performances and scores of women in Midtown’s home for Atlanta lesbian nightlife @ My Sister’s Room, 9 p.m.

 

Saturday, Aug. 10

Bearracuda (middle photo). Leather, jocks and undies serve as a theme for the traveling bear party @ Heretic, 10 p.m.

World United Run. A 5K run/walk for equity and inclusiveness steps off @ Piedmont Park, 7 a.m.

Dames & Dregs. Queer-inclusive music, art and women’s panels during this beer festival benefits Girls Rock Camp @ The Masquerade, 1 p.m.

Hotlanta Softball Season Closer. All those teams, all those beer busts and all that HSL softball ends for the year @ Midtown Moon, 3 p.m.

#Daydrunk. Drink specials put you to bed early or make you the life of the party as the sun drops @ Mary’s, 2:30 p.m. Do it, and you may not remember what you did during the regularly scheduled shenanigans, 9 p.m.

¿Estamos Bien? A conversation about HIV amid Latinx conservatism and machismo @ 7 Stages, 6 p.m. Don’t move. it’s the ¡Tra tra tra!: Pari Contra la Estigma afterparty, 10 p.m.

K!NG. Wussy hosts a stellar cast of local drag kings ft. guest star Andro Gin from Miami @ Star Bar, 10 p.m.  Performances include this week’s funny, sexy Q class clown, King Perka $exxx.

Bound. DJ Neon the Glowgobear leaves you breathless @ Atlanta Eagle, 10 p.m.

Armorettes: Auditions 2 (bottom photo). The camp drag crazies with the hearts of gold against AIDS are in their 41st year of weekly shows @ Midtown Moon, 8 p.m.

Queer Day Hike. Join the Venture Out Project and Southern Fried Queer Pride @ Iron Hill Loop on Red Top Mountain, Cartersville, 4 p.m.

Super-Sized Sunday. First, it’s High Energy and DJ Bill Berdeaux, 1 p.m., then the legendary Sunday drag show kicks off with an all-star cast @ Blake's, 8:30 p.m.

Sporty Sunday Funday. Games and matches on screen, plus all the guys to watch them with @ Woofs, 12 noon.

Drag Brunch Theatre. The Sisters of Sequins with Bubba D. Licious at the wheel while you eat @ Lips, 12:30 p.m. Walk-ins welcome. Or sleep in and do Dinner with the Divas, 6:30 p.m.

Heifer Review. Ruby Redd corrals the queens on the patio @ Joe’s on Juniper, 1 p.m. 

Drag Me to Brunch. Good grub and cool queens serve Sunday vibes @ My Sister’s Room, 2 p.m.

Revival. Gospel Brunch has a whole new look, benefiting Rainbow House @ Midtown Moon, 3 p.m.

Madams, Marys & Mimosas serves drag, brunch and drink specials @ Ten Atlanta, 1 p.m. Sit. Stay. The Sunday Funday weekly tradition of outdoor dudes, DJs and drinks, 4 p.m.

Bi+ BBQ. A potluck dinner for this bisexual-and-allied social group @ East Point via Meetup, 5 p.m.

Chaka Khan Hacienda. Ree de la Vega DJs this day party and vendor fair while you watch the sun go down @ 8Arm, 5 p.m.

Sunday Service. LGBTQ DJs Vicki Powell and Brian Rojas spin up while you spin out @ Sister Louisa’s Church, 10 p.m.

Fresh Faces. Edie Bellini joins the hardworking cast of this ongoing queer talent competition @ Friends on Ponce, 9 p.m. Some just call it Yay for More Drag!
