The Atlanta Team Tennis Association hosted its annual Chattahoochee Doubles Classic over the weekend, with more than 100 gay and lesbian tennis players (and a few gay-friendly straight folks, too) taking part.

Despite some tough weather – rain during opening night on March 7 and cold temperatures and a little light snow the next day – organizers made it through 84 matches in three days, according to Adam Helewski, the tournament’s director, who also won the Mixed C Doubles title with partner Sandi Kuhlemann.

“Once the courts dried up on Saturday, some snow flurries and chilly temperatures didn’t keep our players off the courts,” Helewski says. “Their dedication to the sport was clear as they continued to play through the whole weekend to get all the matches completed. There were some spectacular and very entertaining matches.”

This year, the tournament was centralized at one location, the Bitsy Grant Tennis Center on Northside Drive. The event also featured action across several skill levels, including the most competitive open division.
