Southern Fried Queer Pride serves tasty ‘Sweet Tea’

Southern Fried Queer Pride promised five days of inclusive queer fun for the third rendition of its LGBTQ+ festival and delivered, including a closing party and variety show on Saturday.

The annual festival of performance art showcases, gallery exhibitions, discussions, workshops and dance parties opened on May 23 and wrapped up on Saturday with Sweet Tea: A Queer Variety Show. We caught up with the closing show at Mammal Gallery to snap photos and catch some queer talent on display.

The 2017 edition of the Southern Fried Queer Pride festival offered the most extensive lineup yet. And once the dust settles, organizers return to a schedule that includes events all year long.

"We do a lot because the community needs a lot," Taylor Alxndr, one of the event's creators and organizers, told us ahead of the festival.
