Someone forgot to tell Matt Ryan he’s the quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons.
First pass in the NFL today? Touchdown. First game in the NFL today? Win. Not bad for a rookie, even if he is a rich one at that—think 6-year, $72-million contract. And today, he told the rest of the NFL what his fans in Atlanta already knew—he’s a stud on and off the field.
Ryan took off down the field to celebrate, actually knocking over center Todd McClure as he raced toward Jenkins.
Ryan was the first quarterback to throw a TD pass on his initial NFL attempt since Michael Bishop for New England against Indianpolis on Oct. 8, 2000, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
It’s too early in the 16-game NFL season to start celebrating. But isn’t it nice after the dismal 2007 season to see something like the 34-21 win over the Detroit Lions? After all, there’s not another pro sports franchise in the city that’s winning too much these days.
