imageA trio of Atlanta’s most well-known drag queens will headline a special Pride primer later this month during a Stonewall Celebration event that will mix gay history with the panache that only these queens can muster.

Led by Bubba D. Licious (second photo), the longtime emcee for the Pets Are Loving Support monthly bingo fundraiser, “Stonewall/Pride History 101” will provide an hour of skits and tutorials to take the curious Pride-goer through how we went from a riot in a tiny New York bar in 1969 to celebrations that span the globe. The event is set for June 25 at Jungle.

And what better way to tell the story that started with drag queen fisticuffs than with Licious, former Armorette Wild Cherry Sucret (bottom photo) and Rapture Divine Cox (top photo), a member of the Atlanta Sisters who captured her own crown during the most recent round of Dragnique.

The event, part of Jungle’s Official Stonewall Celebration Party, benefits the Atlanta Pride Committee.

Here’s how the nightlife hot spot describes it:

On Saturday, June 25 doors at Jungle open at 8:30 for an exceptionally entertaining and educational Stonewall revival show beginning at 9pm. Lead by Professor Bubba D. Licious, and including Atlanta’s strongest talent with Wild Cherry Sucret, Rapture Divine Cox, Vivian Valium, Jasmine Antoinette and more. The show, entitled “Stonewall / Pride History 101”, will last one hour and will include skits and tutorials that span from the death of Judy Garland and the relevance to the riots to the ever-growing acceptance of the community as reflected in the popularity of Lady Ga Ga, Glee and many Hollywood films. The fight for equality may have many strides left to make, yet the show will celebrate the ever growing landmarks made by our brothers and sisters before us.

A $5 cover charge, which is a donation with all proceeds going to benefit Atlanta Pride 2011, will be charged at the door. All bar proceeds from 8:30 to 11pm will also go directly to benefit Atlanta Pride 2011. The show will be followed by a night with DJ Oren Nizri. Developed in Israel and polished in Europe, the talented spin master Oren Nizri began his professional career in Tel Aviv in 1998. As the resident DJ of the “Voice of Tel Aviv”, the city’s hottest radio station, he hosted his own highly rated bi-weekly program “In My House”. For several years, Oren spun in some of the most renowned nightclubs and music festivals in Israel and Europe, honing his talents with the latest music trends, refining his skills and techniques and making loyal followers among the large and diverse European market. The DJ phenomenon moved to South Florida in early 2003 when he realized that his signature style of music, a blend of soulful, deep and European funky house that progresses into big room and high energy tracks with sexy and uplifting vocals was perfectly suited for the American club scene.

Jungle’s event is part of a full slate of events planned for Stonewall Celebration, which opens on June 18 with the East Point Possums Show.
