Mary Edith Pitts, Knomie Moore (photo), Wild Cherry Sucret and rest of the Armorettes are packing their bags and heading a few blocks south to a new venue for their weekly dose of camp drag and fundraising.
Fro 30 years, the Armorettes have raised money for HIV charities through their shows, which for the last five years have taken place Sundays at Burkharts Pub. But come Oct. 11, they move to Blake’s.
Tony Kearney, who has performed as Wild Cherry Sucret since 2000, made the announcement Monday to fans of the drag troupe on Facebook. Sunday’s show marks the last for the Armorettes at Burkharts.
For 5+ years, the Armorettes have been a part of the Burkhart’s family. We have done great things while being there by increasing our PWA Fund to well over $1.8 million. We want to thank the owners and staff for allowing us to be there and supporting us.
The venue change comes as the Armorettes prepare for their 30th anniversary show, which is scheduled for Sept. 27 at Jungle. On Oct. 11, the group opens a new chapter when they hit the floor of Blake’s.
