Monday: ‘Gay bishop’ speaks at Emory

image"The gay bishop" lands on the comforting campus of Emory University tonight as he ramps up his role in the debate over gay marriage.

Once a self-described preacher "from a hick diocese in New Hampshire," Right Rev. V. Gene Robinson was thrown in a global storm in 2003 over his election as bishop of the state, making him the first openly gay bishop in the 2.4-million member Episcopal Church.

Gay chamber networks with two-day event

imageThe Atlanta Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce started its biggest-ever 4th Friday networking event on Thursday in a refashioned hotel on West Peachtree Street in Midtown.

The Granada Suites Hotel, which is being renovated and remade in anticipation of its reflagging as the Artmore Hotel later this year, hosted the event in its lobby bar.

Thursday: Six gay things to do tonight

4TH FRIDAY: The Atlanta Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce decided that one day wasn't enough for its monthly 4th Friday networking event, so it expanded it to two days and dubbed it their biggest 4th Friday ever. Tonight, head to the newly-renovated Granada Hotel in Midtown around 5 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., the fun moves to the High Museum for a special showing of China's Terracotta Army with reduced ticket prices. Part II gets started at 5:30 p.m. on Friday at Table 1280 at the High.

MOVIE AND MAKEOVER: YouthPride offers its movie and a makeover night, this time screening "Princess Dairies" while also offering makeovers. The evening, which begins at 6:30 p.m., is for LGBT youth from 13 to 24.

Pearl Day sets Sept. comeback for Six Flags

imageGird your loins, Six Flags Over Georgia patrons. The gays are coming.

Pearl Day, a laid-back effort aimed at packing the amusement park near Interstate 20 in Cobb County with LGBT fans, took a year off in 2008, but is planning a return this year. Organizers want 10,000 people to help take over the park Sept. 11 and take part in a weekend of activities.

Ed Wall pleads not guilty in potty sex bust

imageEd Wall says he didn't do it.

Or at least he pleaded not guilty in a Clayton County courtroom Tuesday to charges that he had sex with another man in a restroom stall at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

Wall, a high-profile investment banker and former chair of the MARTA board, was snared by Atlanta police in March 2007 for allegedly having sex with Michael Reid Pettry. Pettry pleaded no contest in January and was sentenced to 12 moths probation, a $500 fine and 64 hours of community service.
