The two LGBT publications hit the upscale Aurum in Midtown for very different events recently, though the list of public officials, LGBT activists and other boldface names that attended often overlapped.
The GA Voice struck first (second, third photos), hosting its Best of Atlanta Party on July 7 to celebrate its inaugural awards issue in which readers voted for winners across dozens of categories. Project Q Atlanta was pleased to be on hand to pick up our Best Gay Blog award, along with scores of other winners in the broad categories of Community, Dining, Nightlife, Outside ATL, Pets, Retail/Services, People and the Internet. Guests noshed on hors d’oeuvres, downed their complimentary cocktail and enjoyed the tunes from Vicki Powell, the lesbian DJ well-known for her popular Flux events. GA Voice readers, in fact, awarded her two Best Of honors—Place to Dance and Theme Night/Party.
Some 10 days later, on July 17, Fenuxe magazine hosted its Launch Party at Aurum (top photo). Nearly 400 people stopped by the three-hour event to enjoy drinks, a raffle and an evening that also benefited For the Kid in All of Us, the group that organizes Backpack in the Park on Aug. 1 and the annual Toy Party in December. A final tally wasn’t available this week on how much the non-profit received.
