”The L Word” executive producer Larry Kennar is going gay again – this time with men in a new scripted series that keeps it raw and in your face, thanks to the help of a Georgia-born, former Atlanta-living reality show star.
Filming began Monday for the untitled series about a group of friends in downtown Los Angeles. A tipster offered this nugget to Towleroad:
According to our tipster, it steers clear of cookie-cutter WeHo clones and thrusts us deep into the gritty world of hipsters and urban professionals. The show is scripted but shot cinema-verité style, is still untitled, and keeps it raw and in your face " with dark humor and explicit humanity." Further details are being kept quiet as a certain network is negotiating the rights to air the series. The ensemble cast includes Darryl Stephens and former Georgia boy Danny Roberts, a UGA grad who earlier this year relocated to Seattle. Roberts – who appeared on “The Real World: New Orleans” in 2000 – worked with the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation when it brought its national networking and cocktailing series to Atlanta in 2009. He also made tree hugging a little sexier and a little gayer when he helped raised funds for Trees Atlanta. L.A.-based Stephens, known for his “Noah’s Arc” work, was in Atlanta last month when “Push” author Sapphire read from her new novel at St. Mark United Methodist Church. Based on the stills of Roberts and Stephens (photos) tipped to Towleroad, the new show gets steamy and intimate. Which network will air something that sizzling? A&E could use a big gay boost, but don’t hold your breath.
