You might not even notice that the Atlanta Pride Festival is missing this June.
The event, shifted to late October to pave the way for a return to Piedmont Park, at first left a gap in the calendar for late June, which this year is the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in New York. The events are often credited with starting the modern day gay civil rights movement.
But the Atlanta Pride Committee is moving quickly to fill your calendar with a slate of events in late June — from a gay trip to the Georgia Aquarium to a pageant and block party — to raise both money and awareness for the two-day festival later in the fall. And in many cases, they are doing so through partnerships with other gay organizations.
Last week, Pride announced a partnership with Georgia Equality to host Evening for Equality June 27.
The lineup so far:
June 20: 12th Annual East Point Possums Show
June 25-29: LGBT Days @ the Georgia Aquarium with 20 percent off admission
June 26: Miss Atlanta Pride Pageant
June 27: Pearl Day Pool Party; Atlanta Pride Human Rights Exhibit; Evening for Equality; Official Stonewall Weekend After Party
June 28: Stonewall Brunch Block Party; 4th Annual Backpack in the Park
