Atlanta Leather Pride whips out three-day event

imageGet out the straps. Atlanta joins the big boys in other cities this year with our first Leather Pride this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, featuring the Black & Blue Ball and the Mr. Atlanta Eagle contest as its crown jewels.

Daddies and boys are gearing up—literally—for events on Friday at the Atlanta Eagle, Saturday at the Eagle and Manifest4u, plus a Leather Family Brunch set for Sunday at Pizzeria Vesuvius.

The kick-off Black & Blue Ball on Friday features not only a litany of leather but also bondage and BDSM demos by local organizations. After an afternoon barbecue on Saturday, the Main Event promises to draw a crowd for the Mr. Atlanta Eagle contest, and the “Sweat” victory party is sure to set tails and tongues wagging.

Alan Penrod (photo), Mr. Atlanta Eagle 2009, will pass down the sash to the new winner. Contestants compete in Bar Wear/Leather Image, Fetish Wear/Written Fantasy and Jockstrap/Onstage Question categories. Comfort onstage, affability and character are key.

“The only expectation placed on the Mr. Atlanta Eagle winner is that he is outgoing and friendly, and represents the Atlanta Eagle and the leather and fetish community with integrity,” Penrod says in a written statement.

The Eagle will offer to sponsor Mr. Atlanta Eagle 2010 to compete in the International Mr. Leather 2010 or the American Brotherhood Weekend (American Leather Man/boy) contests, but he is not required to compete in any regional, national or international contest. Penrod went on to become 2nd runner up at IML 2009. He will be among the judges of this year’s contest.
