What is it with the
They seemed more focused on haircuts than scoring during their embarrassing loss to Boston on Sunday to open their first playoff series in nine years.
Now Mike Bibby, the point guard and supposed team leader who shot 2-for-10 with five points in Game 1, is dissing Celtics’ fans. Earlier today, he called them “bandwagon jumpers” who are only started cheering on the team when they started winning:
“They were kind of loud at the beginning,” he said. “But a lot of these fans are bandwagon jumpers trying to get on this now. I played here last year, too. And I didn’t see three fourths of them. They’re for the team now and they might get a little rowdy but that’s about it.”
Someone needs to tell Bibby that Philips Arena still has tickets available for Games 3 and 4 in Atlanta this weekend. And remind him that the last sellout the Hawks had was April 12. Against the Celtics. The Hawks lost by 10. Bibby and the Hawks should be happy to have fans, fair-weather or otherwise, watching their debacle of a playoff appearance.
Meanwhile, at Big Papi’s home in suburban Boston, Hawks rookie sensation Al Horford and team officials are having dinner. Focus, guys, focus. (Game 2 is Wednesday at 8 p.m.)
