Mix a pro sports team, a business networking group and a non-profit and what do you have?
A fun afternoon (with cash bar), or at least that’s the hope of the Atlanta Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. The group is partnering with the Atlanta Dream on Sunday to host a reception and fund-raiser that benefits the Atlanta Lesbian Health Initiative.
Initially, directors at the gay chamber were looking to create a fun social outlet during the Dream’s game against the New York Liberty. But as discussions proceeded, the group looked to do something more and the idea to create a benefit for ALHI was born, according to Maria Rivers, a chamber director.
“It’s a tailgate without the trucks,” Rivers says. “If we can expose people to the Atlanta Dream and get them to the game and add more, it’s just a straight up benefit for all around.”
Events start with a pre-game reception at 2 p.m. in a private room Philips Arena. Before the 3 p.m. tip, the crowd will move to its group seats and after, the event moves to a nearby restaurant for a post-game gathering. Tickets cost $15, or $5 for fans who already have tickets to the game but want to join the chamber event. For details and to purchase ticket, go here.
