Atlanta's drag performers rallied again for Ashley Kruiz on Wednesday during an emotional show that served as a send off for the entertainer who died three days earlier. The memorial benefit at Burkhart's was the first of three scheduled to raise funds to help pay for medical and funeral expenses for Kruiz. The longtime drag queen died on Sunday after battling pneumonia for days in Grady's Intensive Care Unit. The tears came early and often during the show, including somber moments when Charlie Brown addressed Kruiz's roommate and Nicole Paige Brooks offered a toast with the crowd (see video). Brown helped host the show with Shavonna B. Brooks and Angelica D'Paige. Other benefits are set for April 10 and April 19. UPDATE: Organizers announced late Thursday that more than $3,600 was donated during the event.
