Atlanta businesses join Lyft’s queer clothing drive for Pride

Lyft is collecting clothing donations throughout the city for a transgender and gender non-conforming clothing swap to be held at its booth during Atlanta Pride.

The rideshare and e-scooter giant distributed over 20 donation bins around Atlanta for people to donate new or gently-used clothing of all shapes and sizes now through Oct. 7. The spots include the Philip Rush Center, Saint Mark United Methodist Church, Hideaway and Woofs.

Lyft will then hold the clothing swap at its booth near the Charles Allen Drive entrance of Piedmont Park during Atlanta Pride on Oct. 12-13. The company started the clothing drive because there are fewer clothing options for trans and gender non-conforming people, according to Sam Bond, Lyft’s Southeast regional director.

“Exploring your own personal style can be a tool for self-expression and a chance to celebrate your own identity,” he said in a press release. “Everyone deserves to have a chance to do this in a safe space, and we want to help LGBTQ+ Atlantans overcome this under-discussed barrier they frequently face.”
