Some of Atlanta’s Black Gay Pride revelers took a respite from the active nightlife scene to focus on more meaty issues during the weekend’s annual State of Black Gay America Summit.
The four-hour event, a staple of Pride weekend since the summit’s inception in 2007, featured keynote speaker Sharon Lettman-Hicks (top photo left), executive director of the National Black Justice Coalition. Lettman-Hicks took the helm of the civil rights organization last October after an eight-year stint at the People For the American Way Foundation.
The afternoon also included a panel discussion that featured several high-profile LGBT people, including state Rep. Simone Bell and Patricia Powell, the Atlanta police gay liaison.
Elected officials also stopped by, including Atlanta City Council member Michael Julian Bond and Fulton County Commission Chair John Evans. Both men have appeared at other LGBT events this year.
