There are no days like glory days. Just ask Atlanta's drag queens, DJs and patrons who came together to reminisce and raise the roof during the annual Armory Reunion party at Amsterdam.
The Armory is long gone but by no means forgotten in gay Atlanta. Once home to many a drunken night, its ghosts haunt the high-rise that took its place. And of course as the original home of the Armorettes troupe, other Armory ghosts still haunt camp drag fundraising stages to this day.
Many of them were resurrected at Sunday’s event, from its queens to its DJs, its party boys in a former life and its staff. The event welcomed throwback beats by DJ Christopher Kind and drink slinging by former Armory bartenders Alan Creasy and Vaughn Ritschel.
Armoretes past and present were also on hand. They included Bubba D. Licious, Vivian Valium, Nurse Holly, Amber Divine, Shenita Quit, Trashetta GaLore, Jessica Poof, Suzanne Sugarbaby, Pearl Lakesha Long, Betty Bennett, Dixie Normous and Tina Devore. The Armorettes continued the celebration during their weekly show at Hideaway with some old-school guests in the mix.
