Atlanta Pride kicked off a weekend celebration of all that is LGBT with a packed party at the Georgia Aquarium on Friday.

Thousands of people descended on the official opening event, which sold out like it has year after year. DJ Kitty Glitter from Australia powered the music in the main atrium, while Atlanta's own DJ Robert Ansley kept the beats going for the VIP reception in the Oceans Ballroom.

Attendees included singer LaTavia Roberson, an original member of the R&B group Destiny's Child, at least two Atlanta mayoral candidates – Cathy Woolard and Mary Norwood – and Atlanta City Council member Carla Smith.

UPDATE | Peter Aman, the former chief operating officer for the city under Mayor Kasim Reed, also attended the kickoff party. Aman entered the mayor's race earlier this year.
