Ansley Starbucks as Atlanta’s newest gay bar?

Because Ansley Mall needs another gay bar, there's this: Starbucks is adding booze to its menu at thousands of stores, so that Ansley Mall Bearbucks may soon offer beer and wine.

That gauntlet of ever-watchful gays you pass on your way to LA Fitness and Boy Next Door is about to get boozier. After 4 p.m., of course.

The coffee chain plans to roll out alcoholic beverages to thousands of stores over the next few years as part of a program it calls Starbucks Evenings, which starts after 4 p.m. A few things for consumers to note: The options will be bottled beer or wine, not cocktails, and the selection will vary to meet “local taste preferences,” according to a spokesperson. Customers should expect to be carded, and shouldn’t expect to find evening-time Starbucks turning into a bar.

Uh-huh. Not a bar. Right. Add wine and beer to the already cruisey mix that is the Ansley Starbucks and well, that is a gay bar. But better: Starbucks banned smoking last year, which is a step several of Atlanta's actual gay bars haven't taken.
