Amazon gives back to gay Atlanta while you shop

Finding a way to combine our loves for shopping and for LGBT-ATL giving is genius. And as it turns out, tons of Atlanta's gay non-profits can and do get an Amazon Smile.

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js#xfbml=1"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); }(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));

With Amazon Smile, whichever charity you choose gets 0.5 percent of every Amazon purchase you make.  It’s pretty cool. After all, Amazon is a huge part of people’s lives that get a huge hunk of gay dollars. Like Kroger. The percentage may not sound like much at first, but maybe you haven’t seen our Amazon history from Christmastime, or our ever-growing Amazon Wish List.

We jumped a little when we saw the post from the Health Initiative on Friday. They’re the people who bring us the annual Garden Party (top photo) set for May 18 this year, co-founded the Rush Center and who help all of LGBT Georgia navigate all manner of health issues from insurance to healthcare to wellness programs.

But we really got excited when we bellied up to the list of potential Amazon Smile beneficiaries in Atlanta. It’s more gay friendly than Neil Patrick Harris as a guest judge on “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” Color us intrigued and happy that Amazon is gay-inclusive with its giving.

Of the thousands of worthy causes on the Atlanta list, we were floored by the number of LGBT charities. In addition to the Health Initiative, we found the following list of worthy gay and gay-adjacent Atlanta groups that reads like a Who’s Who of charitable gay giving in town.

AID Atlanta
AIDS Research Consortium of Atlanta
Atlanta Bucks Rugby Football Club
Atlanta Freedom Marching Band
Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus
Atlanta Harlequins Womens Rugby Football Club

That's just with our first cursory search. To choose a beneficiary, go to Amazon Smile, enter an organization name and select it to recieve benefits from your shopping. If your group isn’t registered for donations yet, you can go see about that too.
