imageAlex Wan, the Atlanta City Council’s lone openly gay member, is joining with one of its most gay-friendly members to host a Gay Pride Reception next week.

Wan (photo) joins forces with City Council member Lamar Willis for the Oct. 6 event at Halo Lounge in Midtown. In the past, Willis has hosted a similar event in the days leading up to the annual Atlanta Pride Festival, which opens this year on Oct. 8 with its popular kickoff event at the Georgia Aquarium.

The Wan and Willis reception promises three hours of food, cocktails, music and live performances, starting at 6 p.m. They’ll even award a prize for the best costume, so dress in appropriate Pride-ish attire.

Wan and Willis announced the event Wednesday:

Members of Atlanta’s gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community, family members, friends and visitors are invited to enjoy food, music and live performances. A special prize will be awarded to the winner of the event’s annual costume contest at 7:30 p.m.
