A somber and spiritual opening to Pride unfolded Wednesday inside a Midtown church as a crowd of about 100 people took part in the Atlanta Pride AIDS Vigil.

imageTucked inside the sanctuary of Saint Mark United Methodist Church along with the participants were several panels of the AIDS Memorial Quilt. OurSong and the Saint Mark UMC Choir performed during the event, which was organized by the AIDS Alliance for Faith & Health. Officials with several groups, including Georgia Equality and First MCC, also took part.

The non-profit AIDS Alliance integrates faith into its efforts to extend long-term survival for people with AIDS. The group works to refuse the cost of health care, support services and prevention programs.
