Tucked behind a tony Buckhead residence on Sunday was a poolful of gay soup. You know the variety — hunky gay guys packed into fashionable swimsuits while cocktailing in a pool and raising money for charity.
In other words, it was Joining Hearts lite and like the massive party for charity a day before, this pool party also raised funds for AID Atlanta. In fact, organizers say, the Sunday event attracted more than 300 people and raised $13,175 for the non-profit HIV group.
Besides the cadre of shirtless hot guys, the event also attracted a trio of elected officials or candidates: Gay Atlanta City Council member Alex Wan, lesbian Fulton County Commission candidate Joan Garner and Mary Norwood, a gay-friendly former City Council member who hopes to get on the ballot this fall.
Sunday’s pool party was at least the second high-profile LOOP fundraiser. More than $12,000 was raised May 5 during a Cinco de Mayo bash in Ansley Park.
Both events were also designed to recruit new members for AID Atlanta’s LOOP, which is the agency’s program for donors who contribute more than $1,200 a year.
