A map of gay ATL’s Missed Connections spots

View M4M Missed Connections Atlanta in a larger map Where gay men cruise in Atlanta -- in public, face-to-face and without Grindr -- is pretty fascinating. And hilarious. So we created an interactive map of the M4M Missed Connections on Craigslist. We got inspired by the work of Dorothy Gambrell, who made a map of Craigslist Missed Connections across the U.S. for Psychology Today. Gambrell showed that the most-cited spot in Georgia was the car. But her map didn't break down the ads by sexual orientation or go deeper than the single most popular (and general) category for each state. So we did. We created an interactive Google map with the 100 most recent gay Missed Connections ads in metro Atlanta. Scroll around and see for yourself where men catch the eye of other men and suffer their romantic misfires. Click on any blue placemarker in the map for the location and the text of the related ad posted on Craigslist. The ads we plotted span Feb. 10-21 and left us with 85 places. A handful of locations were cited in multiple ads. In others, shy folks who posted didn't offer enough specifics for us to include it on the map or for the object of their attraction to find them. Here's what we discovered: People who posted the ads ranged in age from an 18-year-old guy who likes Wild Wing Cafe in Gwinnett to an 85-year-old churchgoer in Kennesaw.

Im a young spunky guy. I was dancing at Wild Wing Cafe in Snellville (The Avenue) there was a band playing. I was dancing and you came up behind and danced on a young guy (me). I really liked it!! Email me!! Im the young 18 yo skinny tall white boy with the great ass.
The most popular place to spot a trick -- yeah sure, or love -- was the gym with 16 ads. LA Fitness branches across the region had the most ads (10), while Athletic Club Northeast notched two ads and Life Time Fitness also proved a good spot.
Sunday morning caught each others eyes at the gym. You tall, lean red head jock. Tell me where you were and what you were wearing when we last saw each other. Put Red Jock in the subject to weed out spam.
Supermarkets showed that people aren't always searching for groceries. From an Ingles in Temple to a Kroger near Little Five Points and a Publix in Ansley Square, cute guys were catching the glimpses and stares of gay men.
noticed u around 8 tonight. u were shopping along the back aisle then made your way to liquors. crew cut, light hair, navy/dark shirt, jacket, and pants. would be hot to get on my knees for you man.
Cruising and food seem to go hand-in-hand. From a cute counter guy in khakis at a Canton Zaxby's to the driver of a blue BMW in a Roswell Road Chick-fil-A. Really guys, Chick-fil-A? Even a cute Subway sandwich artist in Peachtree City.
Timbo, you seemed pretty oblivious, but I just wanted to let you know that you were hot as hell in those khakis with a rockin' sweet booty and very kissable lips. BUT I'd sit back and just admire you if you preferred it that way. Whatever way you'd like if we were to meet.
Inserection proved a draw, too, with six Missed Connections ads. Why there? Oh, right.
hate i didnt get up wtih you but i was nervous and when i got the courage to get up with you you left. would love to take you out to dinner or something. you: about 5'11, glasses, casual dressed, black guy me: black guy, blue shirt.
The Missed Connections were sometimes random, from a runner in downtown Atlanta to a dude on a smoke break chatting with his mom in Gainesville and a leasing agent at a College Park apartment complex. Even a guy driving a silver Toyota SUV at Red Top Mountain State Park.
We were standing outside smoking and you were talking on the phone with your mom. When you were finished you said I looked like I was having fun. I said I was tired and then you started talking about buying tires for your car. If you are interested, tell me what kind of car you drive and what store.
Some ads came from guys who made their, ahem, connections but wanted more.
WE MET AND PLAYED AT FLEX ON SAT NITE. ME: MASCULINE...OLDER....MUSCULAR TOP. YOU: ASIAN..... SMOOTH.... VERY FRIENDLY WITH BEAUTIFUL SMILE. YOU TOLD ME YOUR FIRST NAME STARTED WITH AN "S". MY FIRST NAME STARTS WITH A "T". TELL ME WHAT WE DID THAT NITE. I ENJOYED BEING WITH YOU AND WOULD LIKE TO GET WITH YOU AGAIN IF YOU ARE INTERESTED.
Haircuts also provided the setting for a handful of Missed Connections, from a cute friend of a customer at Bubbles to a guy at a Cheshire Bridge salon wearing a college t-shirt.
Saw you in Bubbles Salon yesterday - early afternoon. The person you came in with got his hair cut, but you sat in the waiting area working on your laptop without getting yours cut. You were wearing a light blue shirt with a hood. We made quite a bit of eye contact. I would have come over to talk to you, but we were both with someone else and it would have been a bit awkward. I would enjoy meeting you if you are interested. Tell me what I was wearing so I'll know it's really you. And please put "Bubbles Bear" in the subject line to weed out spam. Thank you!
Now, let's head to the gym! Or wait for Christmas.
