You’d expect a drag queen bank robber to go down in a fabulous, “Thelma & Louise” sort of way. But getting shot? What do you expect to happen in Paulding County?
The cops, having had their fill of John Edward McCrary (photos) and his cross-dressing capers, shot him during a four-hour standoff at his Paulding County home on Thursday, according to the AJC. At least Atlanta cops just strip search you and probe your butt.
McCrary was wanted not just for bad drag – hello, white boots with a blue skirt! – but for his suspected role in knocking off a BB&T Bank in Marietta. He robbed as a woman but ran away like a man, tipping cops that they had a cross-dressing bandit on their hands. At least he looked better than this camp drag robber.
On Tuesday, Marietta police nabbed his beard, Megan Haney, and closed in on McCrary but lost track of him in a shopping center. Two days later, authorities closed in on him again as they located a stolen vehicle. It didn’t go well.
“When they made contact with the person at the residence, he pulled a handgun and began threatening suicide,” Gurley said.
McCrary is in serious condition in a hospital, no doubt a more comfortable stop than his next one: The county jail.
