The fairyland of HBO hit “True Blood” has nothing on the Atlanta Radical Faeires, who turned the massive grounds of an arts complex in Grant Park into a faerieland playground for a crowd of hundreds on Saturday.
The Faeries encamped at the Arts Exchange and turned the mix of indoor and outdoor space into a playground for A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which attracted a crowd that dressed (and undressed) the part. Would you expect anything less from a Faeries event?
The night, pitched as “a celebration of Summer Solstice, queer love and waggish frolicking,” included the music of DJs Vicki Powell and Jason Toups, magic meatballs, fire dancers, drummers, aerialists and a heap of party-goers who brought their own toys.
Saturday’s event wasn’t the Faeries’ first success at concocting a night of festive frolicking. In February, the group co-hosted the “Intergalactic Love Affair: A Cosmic Ball” at Jungle that provided not only fun for the costumed hoards, but raised more than $4,600 for YouthPride (view photos).
