7 things you didn’t know about Atlanta’s big gay bondage fest

If you think kink, or think you might like to, what’s better than a weekend of leather, rubber, bootblack or BDSM? All four fetishes wrapped into one at Southeast Black & Blue Weekend, that’s what.

From the ever-whirring minds that bring you monthly Hotlanta Rubber & Gear nights and quarterly themed Fetish Nights comes this fourth annual event at the Atlanta Eagle. It combines demos in multiple disciplines with socials, meals, parties and classes.

The only way to pack that much leather, rubber, bootblacking and BDSM into your harness is to spread it over three days. Well, open wide because the rubber meets the road during a Friday Hotlanta Rubber Meet & Greet featuring some BDSM demos.

On Saturday, classes, vendors, a beer bust barbecue, and a cigar happy hour dot the daytime, and an open-to-the-public Grind Pig Dance goes down after dark. Sunday finds a brunch buffet and a private T-dance bookending the weekend’s closing day.

In the meantime, here’s what you should know, need to know, might like to know, and may not have heard yet about Southeast Black & Blue Weekend.

Power couple.

Of sorts. Sir Alan Penrod and his Pup Nitro are not just great guys dedicated to several local BDSM communities. These multiple titleholders are co-founders of Southeast Black & Blue Weekend and organizers of other local events big and small including Atlanta Leather Pride. Penrod is also one of this weekend’s presenters. Rowr.

NoSafeWord podcast.

You best be ready. Daddy Tony and Sparky of the NoSafeword podcast and website leave no topic unturned. They broadcast live from Black & Blue Weekend. Be a part of the scene and join the conversation on topics like “Football Puppy” (photo) on Saturday starting at 5 p.m. at the Eagle.

Find your kink.

Classes include Primal Play, Pressure Point Play and Impact Play. But let’s get specific. Learn the ins and outs of Cock & Ball Torture, how to Put A Clamp On It, a practicum on building a Toybag on a Budget and so much more. View the full class schedule.

Be warned: ‘The bears are drowning.’

That’s right. Fundraising gummis for everyone!

Bring your sisters.

You might bump into some Atlanta Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, but your open-minded sisters of all genders, orientations and flair for attire are welcome. In fact, lesbians are an official part of the official program. Check out the crowds in our photos from the 2012 official festivities and dance party.

Hold a titleholder.

Penrod and Nitro are just two of the titleholders you’re likely to bump into. Ther are no title contests during this year's event, but with connections to local and international contests and guests, look for sashes and badges that say, “Sir, yes sir!”
