Why oh why do Atlanta Pride organizers continue to taunt us? Sure, we’ve got Pride Lite this month. But we’re still four months away from the big weekend party of daisy duke shorts, leather harnesses and bare titties that is Atlanta Pride.
Pride is happening in June all around us, from South Carolina to Tennessee and even Augusta, Ga. And yes, your friends are packing their rainbow-colored bags and heading to New York later his month. Why? Cause they can and it’s Pride there, too.
Pride is trying to build excitement until our slice of rainbow heaven. But that’s not until Oct. 13-14, which turns our Pride rainbow blue. That’s light years away, several U-Haul rentals for lesbians and like four Grindr updates for gay men. A long time.
Atlanta Pride’s latest salvo came on Tuesday in announcing that Pride’s Official Kickoff Party – the one in which U.S. Rep. John Lewis warms up before he does the Pride shuffle – is set for Oct. 12 at the Georgia Aquarium. Oh, and tickets are now on sale to swim with the gay fishes and dance to the beats of DJs Corey Craig and Vicki Powell.
“This is the fourth year that the Kickoff Party has been held at the Georgia Aquarium and we are excited to see another successful program in 2012,” Glen Paul Freedman, Atlanta Pride Committee Board Chair, says in a prepared statement. “APC views the Georgia Aquarium as an important partner, and we are so pleased that we can welcome residents and visitors alike to the world’s largest Aquarium for this wonderful event celebrating the LGBT community."
So anyway, four months. Not even Ben Cohen can hold our interest that long.
But maybe this will help: Registration is open for Pride’s big ass
gay wedding commitment ceremony. And if you entertain, they are interested in that, too.
Until October, you’re stuck with Pride On Demand, President Obama teasing you with a Happy Pride message and 140 places other than Atlanta that do Pride in June.
